Scooter Corkle went back to his hometown to film the movie and he got locals to be some of the extras.
Despite it never named, indications are that the movie is set in a fictional version of the town of Castlegar, British Columbia, where it was filmed. Such indications include a pulp mill being one of the major employers in Castlegar (fictionalized as the actual name of the mill is not Balkoff), and the nearby towns of Nelson and Trail being mentioned by Darryl, the three communities which are sometimes mentioned collectively in real life with one or another providing regional services for the three.
