Exclusive: Bangkok-based horror studio and distribution company Night Edge Pictures will be making its European Film Market (EFM) debut with horror film Death Dial, alongside a slate of other horror and thriller films.

Night Edge Pictures has unveiled additional cast for Death Dial, with Sanya Kunakorn set to join the project.

Top Thai actress Penpak Sirikul is already attached to Death Dial. Sirikul featured in Home For Rent as well as Start Up, Thailand’s adaptation of the popular Korean drama of the same name.

Death Dial is currently in pre-production and scheduled for release in early-2026.

Additionally, Night Edge Pictures will bring Death Dial to overseas distributors at the American Film Market later this year, after introducing the title at the same event last year.

The upcoming series adaptation of “The Chicken Sisters” at Hallmark has added Ektor Rivera to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

Variety exclusively reported in May that Hallmark had picked up the series, which is based on the Kj Dell’Antonia novel of the same name. Rivera joins previously announced cast members Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick. The series is currently in production and is slated to air later this year. Rivera will play the character Sergio.

The official logline for the series states that it is set in the fictional town of Merinac, “where a generations-old rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants – Mimi’s and Frannie’s – has left the founders’ families fractured and the locals taking sides. When a popular cooking show comes to town, things get more complicated as sparks begin to fly and secrets are uncovered.”

The Bear season 3 premieres all of its episodes on June 27 on Hulu. This FX dramedy has proven to be one of the most successful shows of its era. Netflix has acquired an erotic thriller spec script “Undying” from writer Ben Ketai, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news, the deal was for mid-six against seven figures. Shawn Levy will produce the project via his 21 Laps Banner with Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine.

Moera Ainai is overseeing the project and Ketai will also serve as executive producer.

“Undying” centers on a woman, suffocated by motherhood, who has an affair with a man she hasn’t seen since high school only to discover a terrifying secret.

Before the sale, Ketai had recently written and directed “River Wild,” a modern adaptation of Universal’s 1994 thriller of the same name. Featuring Leighton Meester, Taran Killam, and Adam Brody, the movie enjoyed several weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 after its release on the platform.

Adam Brody will star opposite Kristen Bell in an upcoming comedy series for Netflix, Variety has learned.

The untitled series was ordered at the streamer back in March. It centers “on the unlikely relationship between the outspoken, agnostic Joanne (Bell) and unconventional rabbi Noah (Brody).”

The character Noah is further described as “a charming rabbi who is stuck in his ways and used to playing things safe. He starts to stumble when he meets a brutally honest and provocative Joanne, totally upending his safe life plan.”

Brody is best known for his role in the hit Fox drama series “The O.C.,” while his other TV credits include “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” “Mrs. America,” “StartUp,” and “Single Parents.” He has also appeared in films such as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Jennifer’s Body,” “Sleeping with Other People,” and “Promising Young Woman.”

Adam Brody is not Seth Cohen. I have to remind myself of this when the actor appears on screen looking exactly like Seth Cohen. The mop of curls that made Brody, now 43, a Noughties teen icon on The Oc are still there, still mop-ish. Only there’s a little grey woven in now. Since then, Brody has embarked on a career that has splintered in exciting and unexpected directions. You can hardly blame him for not being overly ecstatic to rehash a decade-old role. “Ok” is how he feels when he’s asked about that show these days. Regardless, he is unfailingly polite. Always charming, sometimes warm.

Netflix has commissioned an adaptation of Korean webtoon Doona!, to be directed by hit K-drama Crash Landing On You director Lee Jung-hyo, and revealed that 60 of its global subscribers watched K-content in 2022.

Doona! will be a coming-of-age series that follows the romance between a K-pop star and an ordinary college student. It is to star former K-pop idol Suzy, whose credits include Netflix series Start-Up, in the title role with Yang Se-jong of TV series Still 17 as her love interest.

Lee Jung-hyo, director of hit Korean series “Crash Landing on You” is set as director of “Doona!,” a coming-of-age drama series that tells the tale of a romance between a freshman college student and an established female pop idol. The show will play on Netflix in the New Year.

K-pop star Suzy will portray the pop idol while Yang Se-jong (“Temperature of Love” “Still 17” and “Dr. Romantic”) plays the starstruck male lead.

Suzy was previously a member of the K-pop group Miss A, before establishing a solo career some five years ago. She has previously acted in Netflix’s “Start-up,” “Anna” and “Uncontrollably Fond.”

Netflix revealed Monday that it has ordered a series adaptation of the popular Korean webtoon Doona!

The show will tell the story of a coming-of-age romance between an ordinary college freshman and a former K-pop idol who meet at a sharehouse. The college student will be played by Yang Se-jong (Temperature of Love, Still 17 and Dr. Romantic), while the former idol, named Doona in the series, will be inhabited by real life K-pop star Suzy (aka Bae Su-ji, star of Start-Up, Anna and Uncontrollably Fond).

Doona! will be helmed by veteran K-drama director Lee Jung-hyo, the talent behind Netflix’s smash hit series Crash Landing on You and Romance Is a Bonus Book.

Netflix revealed some year-end viewership data for its Korean content in tandem with Monday’s series announcement. Although somewhat vague, the numbers underscore the streamer’s bullishness on Korean content.

Prolific Japanese film director Miike Takashi and Indonesian genre specialist Kimo Stamboel will be among the star names in the ‘On Screen’ section of the Busan International Film Festival given over to TV series.

Miike has made “Connect,” a Korean-language crime fantasy thriller about a man who is kidnapped and has one of his eyes removed by a gang of organ harvesters and transplanted into the body of a notorious serial killer. The unwilling donor now has terrible visions as he witnesses terrifying attacks on the residents of Seoul. The show was written by Nakamura Masaru and Heo Dam (“Monstrum”).

It features Korean talent including Jung Haein in the lead role and Ko Kyungpyo as the serial killer, and Kim Hyejun as the mysterious Irang.

The star-studded cast of FX on Hulu’s Fleishman Is in Trouble continues to grow. 1091 Pictures has acquired the global rights to “Vandal,” Jose Daniel Freixas’ feature directorial debut, which premieres digitally and on demand on 11/16.

The film follows Nick “Damage” Cruz (Daniel Zovatto), the young leader of an infamous graffiti crew in Miami, as he experiences love, loss and the consequences of his actions while coming of age and struggling to justify his obsession with illegal street art.

Zovatto’s credits include the 2016 horror-thriller “Don’t Breathe,” Showtime horror series “Penny Dreadful” and the upcoming “Station Eleven” adaptation for HBO Max. Otmara Marrero, Beau Knapp (“Southpaw”), Juan Pablo Raba (“Narcos”), Richard Schiff (“The Good Doctor”) and Frankie J. Alvarez (“Looking”) also star.

The untitled spinoff of “The Boys” at Amazon has added Reina Hardesty to its growing cast.

Hardesty joins previously announced cast members Shane Paul McGhie, Maddie Phillips, and Aimee Carrero, Jaz Sinclair and Lizze Broadway, all of whom will play young superheroes. Set at America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (and run by Vought International), the untitled series is described as an irreverent, R-rated show that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Netflix has revealed the full cast of the Western led by Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba called “The Harder They Fall,” with Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, Rj Cyler and Oscar winner Regina King all joining the film.

“The Harder They Fall” is a revenge Western directed by Jeymes Samuel, the singer-songwriter, producer and director better known as The Bullitts. He’s also teaming up with his collaborator Jay-Z to write and produce original music for the film.

In this Western, outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy, Rufus Buck (Idris Elba), is being released from prison, so he reunites his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge.

Samuel co-wrote “The Harder They Fall” with Boaz Yakin, and he’ll also produce alongside Jay-Z, James Lassiter and Lawrence Bender. Samuel and Jay-Z previously worked together on the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby.

Exclusive: Otmara Marrero (StartUp) has been set as a lead in the NBC comedy series Connecting, from Blindspot creator/exec producer Martin Gero, his frequent collaborator Brendan Gall and Universal Television.

Written and executive produced by Gero and Gall, Connecting, which last month received an eight-episode straight-to-series order, is an ensemble comedy about a group of friends trying to stay close (and sane) through video chats as they share the highs and lows of these extraordinary times.

Marrero will play Annie (fka Abby), who identifies as female. Her friends describe her as a hermit who would barely go out, even before the quarantine started.

Wip Latam replaces Films in Progress, launched in 2003 as a joint venture with the France’s Toulouse Latin America Film Festival. It will be endowed with a $33,000 cash prize, the Egeda-Platino Industry Award, adjudicated by Spanish rights collection society Egeda and carrying the name of Egeda’s annual Platino Awards.

The award’s announcement comes after an agreement sealed in February 2020 for the San Sebastian Festival to collaborate in the launch of a Platino Industria forum in the run-up to the Platino Awards.

Sony Pictures Television is to co-develop and co-produce a slew of European originals with Viaplay after the Hollywood studio extended its content deal with the Scandinavian streamer.

The two companies have extended their exclusive, multi-year deal that means Viaplay will continue to have the first-window for Sony films and series in the Nordic region.

The deal includes series including The Blacklist, Outlander, Lincoln, The Good Doctor, S.W.A.T, Seinfeld, StartUp, The Goldbergs and L.A.’s Finest as well as movies including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Charlie’s Angels and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Other feature films include Jumanji: The Next Level, Little Women and Bad Boys For Life as well as Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Baby Driver and Blade Runner 2049.

Sony and Viaplay will also co-develop and co-produce up to six original scripted series that would premiere on Nent Group’s platforms in the Nordics with Sony taking international distribution rights.

The show is described as a fact-based thriller grounded in the latest A.I. research. It features a brilliant but paranoid former tech CEO who joins a Homeland Cybersecurity Agent and her team to stop the world’s first artificial intelligence crisis: the emergence of a rogue AI with the ability to continuously improve itself.

Celasco will play the blue collar tough guy Ty Salazar, who is Shea’s loving husband. He joins already announced cast members Fernanda Andrade, who plays Shea, the youngest agent to run her own cyber division, Eve Harlow, who plays the “ultra woke” Gina, and Aaron Morten who will play Ben, a straight-laced, buttoned-up hard worker who works with Shea at the FBI cyber crime division.

The new “New York Undercover” pilot in the works at ABC is rounding out its cast.

Otmara Marrero, Toby Sandeman, Anna Enger, Mc Lyte, and Octavio Pizano have all been cast in the drama pilot, which picks up 20 years after the end of the original series, “New York Undercover” will follow detectives Nat Gilmore (Sandeman) and Melissa Ortiz (Marrero) as they investigate the city’s most dangerous criminals from Harlem to Battery Park. This time around, Williams is overseeing the unit and the next generation of detectives.

They join previously announced cast members Malik Yoba and Luna Lauren Velez, who will reprise their roles from the original show.

Ortiz is described as a fiery young detective who blends well undercover, while Gilmore is said to be charismatic with an easy smile and a quick fuse. Enger will play Lisa Kim, an ambitious climber. Pizano will play Moses Hernandez, an eager beaver with a hero complex.
