Director Will Wernick said he decided to make this film when his producer pointed out that no films had been made about the popular escape room concept. By late 2021, eight films, including this one, had been released.
Reportedly, the ending confused several audience members.
Elisabeth Hower said she had no problem agreeing to perform the nude scenes after reading the script since her being naked made sense for her character because it was an integral part of the challenge she faced. She was "stripped" of everything she knows, both literally and figuratively.
