The character of "Mila" was inspired by adult film legend, Ginger Lynn. Photos of Ginger Lynn Allen from her movie New Wave Hookers (1985) were used during preproduction . Ginger Lynn appears in the film as Mila's mentor, Roxy Carmichael.
The initial concept of the film began as "what if New Wave Hookers (1985) was an erotic thriller directed by Brian De Palma"
