Lightsabers are an integral part of the Star Wars franchise, but the origin of the Jedi's weapon has only been hinted at in lore. In the original Star Wars Expanded Universe, now known as the Legends timeline, the first version of the lightsaber was called a Forcesaber. It was created by the Rakatan Infinite Empire and used synthetic crystals to channel dark side energy into the blade, and the ancient Je'daii Order repurposed the weapon for themselves. A Je'daii Master later created the First Blade, which served as the foundation for all lightsabers that followed.

However, not much has been revealed about the origin of the lightsaber in the official Star Wars canon under Disney. Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures offered a possible explanation, with Jedi Master Baird Kantoo creating the first Kyber Saber in ancient times, but this series is considered non-canon. Pink Parrot Media, the Montreal and Madrid-based international sales house, has revealed a flurry of deals for the German-Canadian CG animated fantasy feature “Elli and Her Monster Team!,” which is making its market premiere at the EFM.

Underlining the appetite for toon family features by European distributors, the film has been sold to Just Entertainment in Benelux, Bim Distribuzione in Italy, Nos Lusomundo in Portugal, Flins&Piniculas in Spain and Gpi for Baltics.

“Elli” has also been acquired by Pro Films in Bulgaria, Rocket Releasing for Cis, Forum (Czech Republic/Slovak), McF Megacom Film (Former Yugoslavia), Cinetel (Hungary), Forum for Poland, Romania and Israel, and Front Row in the Middle East.

In addition, Wild Bunch in Germany and Level Film and Maison 4:3 in Canada plan a “Elli and her Monster Team!” release by June.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is filled with playable characters from the Star Wars universe, many of which are famous faces. However, the game’s developers also dove deep into the depths of Star Wars lore to fill out the title’s roster of playable characters with truly strange selections that only the most diehard fans would possibly recognize.

Gamers who want to experience everything The Skywalker Saga has to offer will have to unlock over 380 characters. Most of these are key players such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, recurring side characters like C-3Po and R2-D2, and even fan favorites such as Bossk and Boba Fett. Admittedly, a sizable chunk of the game roster consists of variants of the same character, but The Skywalker Saga also includes quite a few obscure characters.

If there’s one thing DC loves, it’s reboots. The comics cycle through their continuity in one form or another every decade or so, the movies…well…that’s a whole thing, too. So of course now it’s time for the DC animated movies to get a fresh start. And this time, they’re doing it with the hero who should pretty much always be the center of these things: Superman.

Since 2014, there have been 20 DC Universe Animated Original Movies, most of which existed in a shared continuity that began with Justice League: War and culminated in this year’s Justice League Dark: Apokalips War. The animated series Star Wars Rebels introduced an ensemble cast of major characters, both soldiers and Jedi, but there’s one hero, in particular, who has gone on to affect the wider Star Wars universe the most. Here are the new and old titles you can expect on Disney+ for February 2020.

The streaming space is a crowded one. Between Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple TV+ and the 2020 launches of NBCUniversal’s Peacock and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max, the competition for your money and attention is fierce.

Now Disney has made the splashiest entrance into the streaming landscape with Disney+. The service’s library features Disney live-action and animated classics, and content from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic.

Disney+ is more than just the greatest hits from the House of Mouse. The service is set to roll out original feature films, TV shows, and documentaries. For instance, Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 is set to arrive this month.

We have our first in-depth look at the upcoming The Walking Dead spin-off series that is yet to have a name, but is beginning to build excitement. From the Walking Dead panel at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, and the teaser that was released shortly after, we know that this series will follow a group we have never met before that has been surviving the zombie apocalypse in a community that has not faced as many trials as the groups we have followed up to now. This group has a bunch of teens that have grown up in this post-apocalyptic world, but fairly sheltered. They are looking to strike out and see what the world around them is truly like. For those of us who have been watching the last nine years, we know that’s probably not a great idea, and they do not sound ready for what is in store.

AMC’s new Walking Dead series is starting to take shape, and we are starting to learn a little more about it. The series is said to focus on “the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever.”

It was also announced that Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will helm the third series in the franchise, which was co-created by Scott Gimple and The Walking Dead veteran writer and producer Matt Negrete. Negrete will serve as the series’ showrunner.

I like the work that Vogt-Roberts has done. His little indie film The Kings of Summer was fantastic, and he also directed episodes of You’re the Worst. The filmmaker has also been developing a feature film version of Metal Gear Solid for years that hopefully gets made one day.

The official Twitter page for The Walking Dead and Skybound Entertainment has released a trailer for the upcoming third series in the universe of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. The trailer features a bunch of teens explaining that they’ve been growing up in this world, and they are ready to go out and find out who they are.

At the panel for Twd at Comic-Con a couple of weeks ago, the series creators talked briefly about the untitled new series, and said that it will feature a community similar to Alexandria, where the inhabitants have faced less trials, and there are kids who have lived sheltered lives within the community since they were born. This series will follow those people. Disney Channel has greenlighted The Curse of Molly McGee, an animated buddy comedy series about a tween optimist and grumpy ghost from the Emmy-winning duo behind The Penguins of Madagascar.

The series from Disney Television Animation follows the adventures of Molly, who lives to make the world a better place, and Scratch, whose joy comes from spreading misery. When one of Scratch’s spells backfires, he finds himself forever cursed in Molly’s presence.

The Curse of Molly McGee is executive produced by Bill Motz and Bob Roth, former EPs of Disney Xd’s Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, along with Emmy winner Steve Loter. No cast was announced.

Disney Channel has greenlighted The Curse of Molly McGee, which follows the unlikely pair of Molly, an optimistic girl who makes every effort to improve the world, and Scratch, the grumpy ghost who finds satisfaction in the miserable.

A magical mishap bounds the ghost with the girl for eternity, and the two must find ways to work together.

Alexa Mansour (Unfriended: Dark Web), Nicolas Cantu (The Amazing World of Gumball), and Hal Cumpston (Australian comedy Bilched) are set as leads on AMC’s new Walking Dead spinoff series, set for premiere in 2020, Deadline has confirmed.

The new spinoff will feature two young female protagonists and will focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it, according to the description by AMC. The hook will be to see who remains good and who turns evil. Details of the roles are being kept under wraps.

Co-created by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe, the spinoff will be run by Matt Negrete, who has been a writer and producer on The Walking Dead for the past five seasons. Produced by AMC Studios, the spinoff is slated to start production on 10 episodes this summer in Virginia.

The recently announced third “Walking Dead” series has cast three major roles, Variety has learned exclusively.

Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, and Hal Cumpston will all star in the new series, which is said to follow two female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the zombie apocalypse. A second lead female role has yet to be cast.

AMC would not comment on specifics for any of the characters, but sources describe Mansour’s character as a good-natured rule breaker who lives for today. She is likable and funny on the outside but sad on the inside. Mansour recently wrapped shooting a guest starring role on the CBS drama “Madam Secretary” and previously starred in the horror film sequel “Unfiltered: Dark Web” for Blumhouse Productions. Her other TV credits include “Seal Team,” “The Resident,” “Bull,” “How To Get Away With Murder,” and “Law & Order: Svu.”

After four awesome seasons, Star Wars Rebels is coming to an end. But it sounds like Lucasfilm has already got plans to follow up the show, which is set within the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, with another animated TV series. Or at least, that’s what a new job listing from the company suggests.

The studio have shared a call for “episodic directors” over on LinkedIn. Seeing as Rebels is close to wrapping production, it doesn’t seem likely that Lucasfilm would be hiring new talent to work on the show at this stage. Not to mention that the wording of the description for the ad hints at a fresh production team being formed for a new series.

Lennon guest stars on an upcoming episode of Disney’s “Milo Murphy’s Law,” the new series from “Phineas and Ferb” creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh.

Lennon will appear as a pistachio stand attendant, Henry, in the next episode of “Milo Murphy’s Law,” airing Tuesday, March 7.

The episode, “Murphy’s Lard,” features Milo (played by “Weird Al” Yankovic) and Zack (Mekai Curtis) trying to help Melissa (Sabrina Carpenter) overcome her secret fear of roller coasters. Also in the episode, Cavendish and Dakota (Povenmire and Marsh) come to the amusement park fully prepared to protect a pistachio stand from potential danger.

“Milo Murphy’s Law” follows the exploits of 13-year-old Milo, whose great-great-great-great grandfather originated the phrase “Murphy’s Law.
