In one scene, Nicolas Cage's character has a quick flashback into his younger years where he is driving recklessly with a topless woman straddling him. This sequence is also used for Christopher Meloni's character Nick Sax in The War on Easter (2019), when he has a flashback into his younger years during a sit-down with his daughter's teacher. Brian Taylor directed both the movie and the episode.
John Waters named this film among his top 10 favorites released in 2018. Ironically, it shares a title with Mom and Dad (1945), a film that Waters has previously cited as having a huge impact on his aesthetics and career trajectory.
The film featured cameos from Grant Morrison and Bokeem Woodbine. Morrison was the writer of Happy! (2017), which was adapted for television by Mom and Dad (2017) director Brian Taylor.
