Samaritan has numerous characters played by actors wearing makeup to give them the appearance of being heavily tattooed. Sylvester Stallone, who actually is tattooed over his chest and upper arms, wears makeup to play a non-tattooed character.

The ball that the little girl is playing with, and is recovered by Joe (Stallone), is a nod to Rocky (1976) where Rocky Balboa spends a good amount of time of the film with a ball, either in his hands, or bouncing it as he walks the city streets.
