Richard Evans got the idea for the character "Shovelhead" while showing one of his filming sites to a client. While he was out in the back of the abandoned steel mill he thought he heard someone dragging a shovel along a concrete floor. No one else was supposed to be on the property and no one was found to be on the property. The sound of a shovel being dragged is featured several times in the movie.
