Between 2011 and 2016, more than 300 people worked on this large-scale low-budget-film without payment, but those, who spent more than some days working on it, became co-owners.
The film was shot between 2012 and 2015 mostly without official grants and only with small private support, but the last months of shooting and the professional post production were supported by the Czech Cinematography Fund.
No one of the two directors is it by profession. Cikan is writer and classical philologist. Silar is set designer.
The original version is Czech, German and Finnisch with Czech and German subtitles.
The film is based on the novel "Menandros und Thaïs" by Ondrej Cikan, which in turn is inspired by the love and adventure novels from late antiquity.
