Exclusive: Scarlett Johansson’s new movie, My Mother’s Wedding, that’s also Kristin Scott Thomas’ feature directorial debut has added BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Sienna Miller, SAG ensemble winner Freida Pinto and Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Emily Beecham. Cameras are currently rolling, Deadline hears.
Details with regard to the pic’s plot are under wraps, but Thomas wrote it with John Micklethwait. Producers are Finola Dwyer and Steven Rales.
Back in 2017, it was reported that Thomas was making her feature directorial debut with The Sea Change, based on Elizabeth Jane Howard’s novel of the same name. This is not that project, nor did it come to fruition.
Miller received a 2013 Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actress TV Miniseries/Movie category and BAFTA Best Leading Actress nom for HBO’s The Girl in which she played Tippi Hedren to Toby Jones’ Alfred Hitchcock. She also received...

Pitting a newly settled family against a swamp creature known as the Grunch, the new one-shot comic Intrusion is now available from Magma Comix, an imprint of Heavy Metal. To celebrate the horror comic's release, we've been provided with exclusive preview pages to share with Daily Dead readers!
Writer and co-creator Ethan Sacks shared how his chemistry with Marco Lorenzana led to the creation of Intrusion:
“I couldn't have scripted Intrusion’s origin story any better: four years ago, on my very first professional comic story for Marvel, I got paired with the incredibly talented artist, Marco Lorenzana. We jammed so well together that we vowed to team up again. Well, here we are with Intrusion, our first but not last creator owned comic together. To hold a copy of something you dreamed up and willed into existence with inspiration and perspiration is truly special. This may be a heart-breaking horror comic,...

As theaters await “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Paramount) and “No Time to Die” (United Artists) over the next two weeks, home viewing options are similarly on the rise. “Free Guy” (Disney), honoring a 45-day window, debuts on Premium VOD September 28. Friday sees two theatrical openers: “Addams Family 2” (United Artists) and “The Many Saints of Newark” (Warner Bros.), also available at home.
That left a more routine week on the charts we follow, although some recent releases got attention as they made their first appearances. But price reductions, led by “F9” (Universal), were also important.
The latest entry in the “Fast” series, which opened in domestic theaters in early June, and then at $19.99 on PVOD in late July, just had its price cut to $5.99 (consistent with the timing of past Universal moves). The just-released director’s cut remains at the higher price. The result is a return to #1 at...

Every floorboard creak and unexpected noise will have you spooked long after you’ve finished watching Intrusion, a haunting tale of isolation and what director Adam Salky calls “the terrifying unknowability of people.” Logan Marshall-Green and Freida Pinto star as Henry, a stylish architect, and Meera, a therapist and breast cancer survivor, who relocate from Boston to a palatial modern home Henry designed and helped build in a small New Mexico town. (Credit: Ursula Coyote/Netflix) “They want to reconnect and start a new chapter,” explains Salky. But before the couple can even uncork the wine for their housewarming party, their home is broken into twice in as many days. “Meera starts to question why they moved to this place and who the people around her really are,” he adds. Gripped by the fear that those behind the home invasion, like her cancer, could come back at any time, Meera grows paranoid.

Don’t know if you’ve heard but Netflix is doing pretty well with their local language releases. Now, with its list of new releases for September 2021, Netflix is leading with one of its biggest international hits.
Season 5 of the worldwide smash Money Heist is set to premiere its first half on Sept. 3. This Spanish series (called La Casa de Papel in its native tongue) about a group of geographically-named thieves found new life on Netflix to become a global phenomenon. Other international series of note this month include Sex Education and Jaguar.
Netflix’s roster of originals in September 2021 is pretty packed even beyond that. The final season of Lucifer premieres on Sept. 10. That will be followed by He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Sept. 16 (not to be confused with Masters of the Universe: Revelation) and Mike Flanagan’s next horror series, Midnight Mass, on Sept. 24.
