One of those movies where the time-line gets altered and they try to fool you. Then everybody is shocked by the ending cause they lied to you throughout the film. Besides that, it's a good film. One girl goes missing and when a 2nd one goes missing things get interesting. Small town politics and very inappropriate behavior is the basic theme. 5.6 out of 10.

I love a good indie thriller but this one was mediocre at best. It did not live up to the online review hype.
Not bad acting is lacking for this type of movie that relies on the heavy carrying the emotion. Also to long and never really pulls you in.
Keep searching for that next flick to watch imo..

Low-budget yes, but I was interested in the story and its conclusion. I felt the direction was good, and the actors did their jobs well. There is a plot twist half way through, but really the film is half whodunnit, half straightforward thriller.

Nothing interesting happens until over an hour later. No suspense no thrills, bad wigs. Things just happen and then the movie ends. The movie just lacked energy.

A guilty pleasur of mine, is watching those made-for-televeison moives that are aweful but for some reason you can't stop watching. These come on more often on Lifetime, which my wife will sometime binge watch and I'll pretend to be disintrested, but sometimes get hooked into one along the way. This is what this movie reminded me of. I think I only recognized 1 actress as that I didn't know much about Robin Lively before watching, the actress who played the villian's mother was on designing women a long time ago (another guilty pleasure).
It's about a woman despreate to find her duaghter who had gone missing years ago. When another daughter goes missing the mother is sure (as a gut feeling only) that there is a connection.
Sounds like a made for television movie, there aren't any big named actors in it and the writing is just ok, but theres a bit of a twist that makes this movie more interesting that I won't give away here.
I say watch it. If you don't like it, you can always turn it off.

Picked this up in the supermarket regrettably. A slow-burning suspense thriller you'd say but disappointing. The opening ten minutes or so looked promising and after that lacklustre. Too much screen time for the lead plain Jane, overly pushed accents got in the way, voiceover from the head somewhat off-putting.
You get up to the first sherif scene and it's silly. Bar scene after laughable. Poor editing throughout, aimed for eerie and mysterious yet didn't come off and so cinematically not good. Just too much wrong with the execution from the actors and the director.
Also, is the lead meant to be with the other younger woman or what because that wasn't very interesting either. Queue more annoying characters, some flashbacks, just a no from me.

The problem must be marketing. Jennifer Lawrence played a similar character in a similar movie and she needed a golf cart to carry home all the awards she got. Lively, known mainly for TV, gives a performance that holds the attention. In fact the entire movie is technically perfect and it engages quite well. In the 1940s this would have been a classic "noir." ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Please check out my list "167+ Nearly-Perfect Movies (with the occasional Anime or TV miniseries) you can/should see again and again (1932 to the present))

I generally watch only movies which have a rating of 6.0 and above so I thought I'd give this movie a go.
It certainly has its twists and turns in the movie which I enjoyed especially if you are trying to work out how the movie will play out. Its hard to predict at times. Not A listed stars acting in the film, but felt they played a good role. Looking for a missing child is the main aspect but there is more to the story which is revealed during the movie. Its on amazon prime under the name of "disappearance at lake elrod."
If you like twists and turns in movies, this movie is definitely for you. It's nothing special hence my rating is only 6, but worth a watch.

It's such a predictable movie with all the extremely PC elements thrown in, that for me was a waste of time watching, so I quit half-way through.
You've got the lesbian couple, which adds nothing to the story by being gay, the mixed-race partnership, the poor woman who is a victim of incompetent police, an African-American journalist wearing heavy make-up, and acting rudely, and pissed all the time, the hatred for religion, and the rich, evil perpetrator.
With these elements, you can imagine the story; it's been told numerous times, and hammered into us by media and #MeToo movement over and over again.

Stop becoming confused by this gerontopsychological thriller, abouta disappearance, and then another one in a small community deep in the southern heartlands, with hardwood meadows and hills that makes everything look so dusk and dark even in daylight.
The next confusement is what youre meant to believe as flashbacks, that must be a hillbillie moment for every dementiadamned movieviewer, and the lack of timeline really make you feel loosing track on time.
The most confusive moment for a grumpy old man was the shapeshifting and all pivoting moment of the plot, no further elaboration to that.
Its a complex movie, its filled with a lot of ''you never know for sure'' moments, it has intensity, but lack the deepness of true life and real life human behavioral demeanors. Its like the fog of war, whos the friend and whos the foe, the choice of shapeshifting methods could be discussed, should they cast another actor or use some more advanced make up. Also the law enforcement has some dramatic and fatal glitches, usually in a omnious setting an officer would actually shoot before the weapon is drawn (ive watched to many bodycam documentaries).
Allthough confused i can tell that the filmo and editingtablecraftmanship is of high standard, and it has a happy ending...i think...or are there still some secrets/ swines hidden between the logs. Im still standing on the pivots crankshaft on recommending...

A mourning mother a lonely soul brought to life flawlessly by Robyn Lively. Story is immersive and heartbreaking but with all the excellent work it's message is on toxicity of prejudices and that lives flourish in places unheard of when blessed with love.

Ok...nothing more...
it's decent for a low budget movie...but i found the story a bit trite/ not very imaginative...but, overall, it wasn't bad. Still, of course, there will be reviewers who are only out to trash, pretty much, whatever they look at. So it goes.
THEN there's the one time reviewer who gives the movie an undeserved ten. Gee...i wonder who THEY knew in the production... this, in itself, is the triteness of imdb reviews and one must learn to read between the lines... i think this would fit under the 'good for a rainy afternoon without much else to do or watch' category...some ok tv movie or rental.

This is one of those somewhat artsy-fartsy indie movies where nothing happens most of the time.
The writers, of course, think they are presenting something profound, but their writing is as deep as a rain puddle in the middle of the Sahara. They think that by broaching controversial subjects or embracing the usual agendas they will show how important or relevant their little opus is. But, as usual, this is not the case.
What we have here, as usual, is a ludricous and contrived plot that devolves to a final twist( the writers need to show that they are smart, right?). Actresses seem to plod through the story with bad acting and the whole thing is presented in a soporific way. But, in the end, of course, we are presented with the twist. And the villain is, of course, who you thought the villain would be, or wanted to be.
It is a movie tailored to the folks who see the world through tunnel vision.

Like watching a really bad stage play but longer. At least as a movie one can fast forward. 2020 to 2022 has got to go down in history as the time some of the worst movies saw the light of day!!

Usually I can guess a movies ending in the first 30 minutes.. not this one! Great writing, flashbacks, transitions and lighting. Strong female leads and superb acting from them. Once things start unfolding it takes you through multiple turns. Great indie film!

You'll know in the first 10 minutes if this is the kind of flick you want to watch. If it is, you'll love it. If it isn't....find something else, but don't be as stubborn as I was and have it on for its full length. (I say "keep it on" because I did spreadsheet work after the first 1/2 hour with this on in the background waiting for it to become engaging...which for me it never did.) It felt like a Lifetime movie on steroids; all drama, balance of no happiness to be found, everyone miserable or antagonistic. Did nothing for me but provide a distraction that helped me concentrate on my work more.

Blake Lively stars as Charlie. Her young daughter went missing a year ago and there is still no trace of her. Charlie believes she is not getting help from the police because she is in a lesbian relationship.
Charlie is having trouble remembering things. The medication she is taking makes her see things that aren't real, and soon she finds it difficult to distinguish between reality and her visions. When another young girl, Elodie Carmichael, goes missing, she is convinced there is a connection, and a conspiracy going on in town. All evidence point to Trip Carmichael (Michael Trucco), but Charlie herself becomes a suspect.
This mystery thriller is a bit slow moving and also not quite as interesting as I would have liked it to be. It is a heartbreaking story of loss, longing, heartache, and illness. The climax is a bit confusing, though. 'Through the Glass Darkly' is a well made film with good performances, but I doubt I'm going to remember it.

There was a point about 30 minutes into this movie when I thought about turning it off. However I believe in a fair go, so I watched somewhat detached until the end. My conclusion: don't bother because you won't ever get the time back you spend watching what can only be described as a poor excuse for a story and production. The characters are under-developed, the plot weak, the portrayal of dementia related illness under-researched and the acting stilted and shallow. How other viewers can rate this above 7 baffles me especially when compared against other movies produced in the same year. Not recommended.
