I felt compelled to write about this series purely because of how much I have enjoyed it.
"Flying Witch" makes me happy. It isn't magical girl anime; no battles, no conflict, no one needs to be saved. It's a story centered around every day life. If you want a program you can lose yourself in, this is a great choice.
Consistent in the mood and atmosphere it creates, "Flying Witch" is like a warm blanket on a cool, sunny day. The colors are mellow and slightly subdued. The pace of the show is relaxed and the soundtrack is an added bonus. Miwa and 96Neko perform the opening theme.
I don't know how to classify this series, or if it even needs it. Slice of life, comedy, take your pick. It's easily become one of my favorites. I had no reservations giving this show a perfect rating.
Beauty can be found in nature, people and even little animated television programs.

Here is another instant anime favorite. Now I wasn't sure whether to label the series "fantasy" or "comedy." But I think it's a fantasy, slice-of-life series that is similar to the film "Kiki's Delivery Service."
Based on a manga I had never heard of, this series is about Makoto Kowata, a witch in training who leaves Yokohama for Aomori with her black cat Chito because it is an ancient tradition that a witch who turns 15 will have to leave home to start her training. However, since it is the 21st century, her parents believe she should stay with her cousins Kei and Chinatsu, his younger sister.
After viewing the first three episodes, I knew I was hooked on the series. I think this is a wonderful anime series to watch.

It really helped that I watched this anime with my oldest daughter, as she's pretty fluent in Japanese and lived in the country for a time. Because of that, she was able to explain a few things that came up during the course of the show. And, since she speaks the language, we watched it subtitled instead of dubbed. If you want to see it, it's available now on Hulu (with commercials) and Crunchyroll.
The show is about 15 year-old witch who moves in with some family friends in a small northern Japanese town. She is, as the Japanese sometimes say, 'My Pace'...meaning she's not like most girls and seems to have her head in the clouds at times. But she's also very kind and sweet....and the friends she gains during the course of the show are also very sweet and likable.
The story is unusual and a lot like Azumanga Daioh (also from the same folks) in that the story isn't so much important as the characters. In other words, the adventures and situations are pretty tame and folks who love mecha anime and Kamen Rider-style shows might find it all a bit dull and wimpy. But I loved it....due to the very sweet characters and situations. Additionally, the animation (compared to other anime shows) is exceptional...almost Studio Ghibli quality...with gorgeous backgrounds. Well worth seeing and quite sweet.

I did not have that high expectations for flying witch, but still I got surprised of how uninteresting it was. Usually slice of life is interesting despite nothing happening to advance the plot, you're just interested in the characters and/or having a cosy time. This anime has none of that.

Aomori, Japan. In a land blessed by nature's bountiful beauty, bizarre things begin to take place. Makoto Kowata, 15 years old, is a professional witch. She left Yokohama with Chito, her black cat, to live in the house of her relatives in Aomori. This is where she begins to train as a witch. Even though Makoto's powers are still limited to just flying through the sky, she and her second cousins Kei and Chinatsu surely make the most out of each and every day.
I thought this was a very relax and fun series. I love all the the characters Makoto is a waifu able character.
The art style and design are cute, as is the music.
The voice acting is very hit miss especially since it's a Sentai dub but hey it was a decent attempt.
Still though if you want something relaxing to watch I recommend it.
