Die Alone is the most recent film from Saskatchewan-based filmmaker Lowell Dean. If you’ve heard of him, it’s probably because of the over-the-top genre comedies WolfCop and Another WolfCop. But he’s done several other films, including the zombie film 13 Eerie and the post-apocalyptic action film SuperGrid, which I was lucky enough to catch along with a Q&a session with him at the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival a few years back.

Both zombies and a post-apocalyptic setting return in Die Alone, but it’s not a typical tale of the zombie apocalypse, although that isn’t easy to tell from the opening scenes. Ethan and his girlfriend Emma were heading to his cabin when their car crashed. Ethan wakes up to find Emma and most of his memories, are missing.

The life and career of legendary cyclist Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor will receive the biopic treatment with the feature drama “Black Cyclone,” helmed by Canadian filmmaker Clement Virgo.

The film depicts the life story of the pioneering bicycle racer, best known to the world as “Major” Taylor. At the turn of the 20th century, Taylor made history when he became the world’s fastest man, as well as America’s first Black world champion, at the height of the Jim Crow era. Set in the late 1890s and early 1900s, an official description of the film notes taht “Black Cyclone” follows Taylor as he “confronted racism, both subtle and deadly, yet triumphed with sheer will, the love of a woman, and his troubled alliances with a Black trainer and a white promoter.”

Of boarding the project as its director, Virgo said, “Major Taylor was a fascinating enigma, an athlete ahead of his time.

Highland Film Group heads into the virtual Cannes market next month with worldwide sales rights to the completed supernatural thriller Warhunt starring Mickey Rourke.

Jackson Rathbone, and Robert Knepper also star in the film, which shot in Riga, Latvia, and is directed by Mauro Borrelli (The Recall) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Reggie Keyohara III (The Recall).

Rourke plays a military commander who dispatches an elite team on a deadly rescue mission after a Second World War cargo plane crashes.

Though production around the world has shut down amid the ongoing global health crisis, one movie has, against all odds, wrapped shooting. Starring Mickey Rourke, the World War II fantasy film “Warhunt” has, according to Variety, finished production while filming in Riga, the capital of Latvia, where cast and crew were allowed to continue working under strict guidelines.

According to the report, the filmmakers and cast had to wear face masks and gloves, have their temperature taken twice a day, and abide by social-distancing and hygiene guidelines in Latvia, where the current number of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 812 as of Sunday. The country has seen only 12 deaths so far, along with more than 260 recoveries.

Exclusive: International film finance, sales and production company Vmi Worldwide has promoted Julie Paquit to the post of VP Sales, a move that comes as the outfit sets up shop at the American Film Market which kicks off Wednesday in Santa Monica.

Co-written by Araki, who also directs, and Vogue.com sex columnist Karley Sciortino, Now Apocalypse is a 10-episode surreal, coming-of-age comedy that follows Ulysses (Jogia) and his friends Carly (Berglund), Ford (Mirchoff) and Severine (Mesquida), who are on various quests pursing love, sex and fame while navigating the strange and oftentimes bewildering city of Los Angeles.

Milo Gibson stars alongside Jordan Hinson and Adam Huber in the dark comedy romance that centers on the world of suicide prevention. An August 17 theatrical release in 10 cities including Los Angeles and New York is planned.

Gibson, the son of Mel Gibson, plays Harry, a charming house thief who gets more than he bargains for during an attempted burglary when he stumbles upon Daisy (Hinson) and decides to save her from herself, sending both of them into a darkly comedic journey of self-discovery and love.

In his first leading role since 2012’s cult [s]hit Gallowwalkers, action superstar Wesley Snipes returns to the screen in Final Recall, alongside Rj Mitte (Breaking Bad) and Jedidiah Goodacre (Tomorrowland). Here, Snipes has a hell of good time as a no-nonsense survivalist trying to stop aliens from taking over planet Earth, and attempting to convince a cabin full of teens what is at stake – basically, the end of humanity.

A group of friends are spending the weekend at a cabin on the lake while, unbeknownst to them, aliens have begun to attack planet Earth. A number of the friends are abducted immediately by the ship hovering above, and the remaining two of the group, Annie and Charlie, must rely on an eccentric and dangerous hunter who seems to have special knowledge of the attack, explaining that this day has been prophesized for years and extraterrestrials have been guiding Earth’s evolution in preparation for their ultimate takeover.

Final Recall, aka The Recall, is released in the UK on Digital HD on August 14th and DVD on August 21st.

The theaters these days are filled with re-makes, live adaptations of classic animated films and video game adaptations. The next one on the list going into production is the classic video game Rampage, by Bally Midway who sold the rights to Warner Bros. Pictures. This game was released in 1986 in which players controlled one of three giant monsters and attempted to destroy a city before they were taken out by military forces. When we first learned about the project there was one actor confirmed for the film, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. As of today we have a lot more information.

The only memorable part of the trailer is Wesley Snipes. I get the impression that a person would have a similar real life experience running into Wesley Snipes as the characters in the trailer did when they first meet him. Wesley Snipes stars in Mauro Borrelli's The Recall. This film has been completed and it is slated for theatres, this Summer. The film will release in early June, in Barco Escape’s panoramic theatres. Mauro Borrelli, an illustrator whose long line of credits include Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Hateful Eight and Captain America: First Avenger and director of films such as the recent R.J. Mitte and Wesley Snipes-starring sci-fi film The Recall, is set to direct the upcoming action thriller E-Ghost.

Minds Eye Entertainment and Vmi Worldwide in association with Bridgegate Pictures have cast the star in their action-sci-fi.

Rob King will direct from a script by Dave Schultz about an investigator in a near-future ravaged by global warming who looks into a secretive programme designed to exile those deemed to be unproductive.

Sarah Lind, Jakob Davies and Hugh Dillon have also joined the cast.

Principal photography on The Humanity Bureau is scheduled to commence this week in British Columbia, Canada.
