After his girlfriend is abducted, a man and his friend set off into the countryside on a quest to retrieve her from the chainsaw-wielding killer taking her back to his lair to kill her, and as their encounters bring more random strangers into the situation they must save her from the bloodshed unleashed.
Overall, this one is the very definition of a personal preference film. When this one works, the zany scenarios and full-throttle energy provide a lot to enjoy here. The escalating situations that arise from the chase to get her back, following up an equally silly meet-cute that brought them together, shows him and his friend meeting up with a well-meaning loser hitchhiking across the country, inept police officers more interested in beating innocent bystanders than dispensing justice, hippie figures living in the woods, and many more bizarre individuals that allow for a genuinely thrilling time here wondering who's the next participant encountered. This meshes nicely with the song-and-dance routines that introduce some fun genuine laughs provided the proper mood and mindset are established. However, when that's not met, the film is a struggle and chore to get through. Being nearly two hours is a huge part of that, but this type of over-the-top comedy might not appeal to all out there. The exaggerated mannerisms, over-the-top characterizations of bizarre individuals in this universe, and increasingly zany scenarios featured throughout here might not always be funny which is where this one spends the majority of the time so hoping that the situation doesn't become a drag is a tall ask. This becomes a lot more tolerable when it's running through the more traditional if overly formulaic backwoods cannibal family that she has to survive with long enough for the boyfriend to save her which isn't that bad as the majority of this one is reserved for the personal preference towards the comedy.
Rated Unrated/R: Extreme Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

I saw this movie at Popcorn Frights festival. I blown away on how I was instantly sucked into the movie. Me and my friends could not stop laughing. We all are still quoting the film even though it was subtitled. Being that Deadpool3 and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was released this year, this movie still trumped them with a limited budget, The kills, comedy are fantastic. Before this movie were quoting the Greasy Strangler non stop. Now we quote this. The description is 100% accurate. Its very much like Monty Python meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If anyone has a chance to see this movie, DO NOT MISS YOUR CHANCED TO SEE THE CULT CLASSIC.
One of my early genre-movies was "Cannibal! The Musical" from 1993; I had to wait more than twenty years for another movie that is both as gory and as humorous: "Chainsaws Were Singing" was shot guerilla-style in Estonia, is low-budget (and you can see it, but it is GOOD the way it is), charming and makes you think of good times, when horror movies didn't try to educate you or send a message. "Chainsaws" shows, that DIY creativity is more worth than a big budget. Eventhough "Chainsaws" runs for two hours, there is not a second that should have been edited out - this is exactly how you tell a story, and the actually few (!) musical parts perfectly fit into the absurdity of the story - I wish, Todd Philips ("Joker: Folie a Deux") would have asked Sander Maran, the bain behind the movie, to teach him a lesson or two.
Anyway, if you're no serious guy or gal, "Chainsaws" will be in yout top-10-list for 2024 for sure. This is a freckin masterpiece. They should at least get one Oscar.

Got to see a special screening of this movie and i absolutely loved it. I highly reccomend it if youre into comedy and gore. This movie is the perfect combination ! The characters and dialect were all just spot on. I am very anxiously awaiting a full on wide release of this movie cause i will be purchasing it ! I advise everyone to go follow the Chainsaws Were Singing IG page and stay up to date on its official release. The producers of this movie put in a lot of time and effort into the making if this film and i sincerely feel it needs the recognition it deserves. I have a feeling this will become a classic film !!
