Dileep's films are slowly (since 2010) turning into potboilers with no quality in humor whatsoever. This new one is just another addition in the humongous list of cheap comedy skits worse than those comedy reality shows on TV.
Unnikuttan (Dileep) is a jobless young man who was born in a prison. As a result, he regards the prison, the Poojappura Central Jail, as his home. After the death of his parents, Unnikuttan often comes back to the prison by owning up petty crimes committed by others just so he can stay within the walls where his parents breathed their last. Hence, he is a well-known personality inside, with policemen and wardens considering him as a decent person with a heart of gold. Once after completing the tenure of his time for a certain crime, he gets out into the real world, and almost immediately falls in love with Radhika (Vedika), a journalistic photographer. He gets obsessed with her and tries to court her for marriage. But, things take a turn when Unnikuttan finds out that someone is trying to take Radhika's life...
The most appalling thing about the film is Dileep's annoying and shameful performance as he overdoses while attempting to create slapstick. With one of the worst performances in his acting career, Dileep is the first to be blamed for the film turning into a disaster. Everyone except Vedika follow Dileep and spoil the broth. While the intention must have been to create palpable humor, it never comes out as sane or decent.
A few jokes here and there, and sexual innuendos everywhere - that is what the film mainly is. Addition of crime and thriller elements at least makes the second half a bit interesting. The theme about people who spend most of their life inside prison is intriguing, but the makers edify it into a sorry concoction.
BOTTOM LINE: Sundardas' "Welcome to Central Jail" is a vexatious collection of overplayed performances. Watch on TV if you want.
