I have seen quite a few short films from students and professionals alike. And I have to say that Left With The Right Emotion (2016) is definitely one of those rare types that really knows what it is, if that makes any kind of sense.
Unlike a lot of independent short films today, this one did not feel like Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam squeezed onto a post-it note.
It's a very simple and fun little story that utilized it's time quite nicely!
There was also an impressive amount of personality to be found behind the editing and story structure. Far more than a lot of short film writers/directors could smoothly establish in just a few short minutes. That to me is what sells it!
But like all pieces of cinema, there are some flaws. Some of the performances (most notably the Star Trek guy) were better than others. (That dude was very well casted!) There were also a few speed dating bits that didn't quite hit the right spot.
Although, true enjoyment rests in those who really know how to revel in the swelling absurdity of this admirable stretch of film.
All in all, Left With The Right Emotion (2016) is very much worth the few minutes that it asks for. Those who specialize in nitpicking, I suggest you stay away because you will most certainly find one or two spots to lay your daily pile of doody.
However, those who can sit back and appreciate the element of love and surprise behind short filmmaking, I suggest that you seek this one out!
