When I sat down to watch the 2020 horror movie "Hunter's Moon", it was because of two things. First, this movie had Thomas Jane on the cast list, and second, it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen. Sure, I had never even heard about this movie from writer and director Michael Caissie, but I am a sucker for werewolf movies. So of course I opted to sit down and watch it, as I stumbled upon it here in 2022.
The storyline, as written by Michael Caissie, did have some good aspects to it. But overall, then "Hunter's Moon" was not a particularly great or outstanding foray into the werewolf movie sub-genre. Yeah, it was watchable, but it was somewhat bland and generic.
The special effects in "Hunter's Moon" were limited. And the one and only time you get to actually see a werewolf up close and in detail, you just curl up your toes, because it looks atrociously bad. It was so obviously a suit and a mask with no articulation, much less anything that even resembled life in the details.
The acting performances in the movie were fairly wooden and rigid. Sure, it was fun to watch Thomas Jane and Sean Patrick Flanery in the movie, but neither of them had leading roles.
If you enjoy werewolf movies, then perhaps give "Hunter's Moon" a chance. But don't go expecting much of anything.
My rating of "Hunter's Moon" lands on a three out of ten stars.
