When I sat down to watch "Ozzy" with the family, I was expecting this to be a family-oriented and suitable animated movie, however it turned out that it had some fairly more mature storyline to it, because it dealt with some topics that seemed a bit too heavy and appalling for a young audience whom might not fully understand the concept of it.
While it was intended for a more grown-up audience, it turned out that the storyline in "Ozzy" actually was quite good, and it was entertaining. You just have to get past that this is not really an animated movie intended for the youngest of audiences.
The animation in "Ozzy" was good, and it did have a good feel to it. A good amount of variation in the characters, and the characters did have depth and different personalities.
An animated movie needs a good ensemble of voice actors and actresses to it, and the ones in "Ozzy" were doing fair jobs with their given roles. Now, I can't really say that they had some outstanding names on the cast list. And while the English dubbed version had Will Sasso and Rob Schneider on the list, they didn't really stand out from the other talents. In fact, I didn't even recognize Rob Schneider's voice as being his.
The dialogue in "Ozzy" was actually quite good, but again, do keep in mind that this is for an audience that is not the youngest of viewers.
All in all, "Ozzy" was an entertaining animated movie, although it hardly had the potential to be a classic. And I actually doubt that I will be returning to watch it a second time around, as it just didn't have that quality to it.

I am near my mid-life crisis but still like to watch a good Animation like Shrek, Moana or Encanto... my favourite though is Spirited Away, anyway, as much as I tried to enjoy the movie, the quality of animation reminds me of a noon-kids tv show, it's nowhere near any animation blockbuster, I'd rather watch an old disney comic animation than this "90s"-3d-style, really put me off.
Stars Ozzy, a likeable , kind dog whose upper-class life has turned upside down when his family goes on Japanese vacation to a comic-book convention . As the Martins leave him on an overlong long and far journey. Unable to bring their intimate Ozzy along for the distant ride , they settle on the next best thing , an over-the-top canine spa called Blue Creek run by a villainous owner who captures and incarcerates dogs . Ozzy will soon end up in a well-secured prison controlled by ominous wardens and he will have the ability to find out the best in himself while facing off hard situations . Ozzy will have to avoid risks by joining his new friends, Chester, Fronky and Doc to getaway the prison and go back home safely . Fast & Furry
This attractive story that represents a family entertainment at its best , contains thrills , intrigue , tension, excitement galore, entertainment and lots of fun , concerning a friendly, peaceful beagle dog who is locked at a prison for dogs, run by dogs . The tale itself is based, almost completely , around dogs providing them human qualities . However , being slightly unsatisfactory both for fans of prison escape sub-genre and for dogs buffs , the latter hoping to watch the most entertaining scenes . It follows in the footsteps of movies which use John Lasseter/Pixar-like quality style . This animated comedy-adventure movie results to be a crossover between classic prison movies as The great escape (1963) by Donald Siegel , The longest year (1974) by Robert Aldrich, and even Victory (1981) by John Huston , taking parts here and there . Although it holds heavily on the barely plausible notion of a squad of dogs escaping from an impregnable prison . It's essentially a story about friendship, comradeship , valor , loyalty , and bravery .It packs exceptional plethora of prestigious Spanish actors giving voice to the protagonists dogs such as : Dani Rovira , José Mota , Michelle Jenner , Carlos Areces , Elsa Pataky and Fernando Tejero . Suspenseful and thrilling musical score by prestigious Fernando Velazquez who has composed important films as ¨Hercules¨, ¨The orphanage¨, ¨70 binladens¨, ¨Submergence¨, ¨The imposible¨, ¨Crimson peak¨, among others . The motion picture was professionally directed by Alberto Rodríguez and Nacho La Casa. And it won several prizes as Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain 2017 Winner CEC Award Best Animated Film : Alberto Rodríguez , Gaudí Awards 2017 Winner : Gaudí Award ,Best Animated Feature . And Nominee : The Platino Awards for Iberoamerican Cinema 2017 , Platino Award : Best Animation Film . This is a nice film targeted for kids of all ages and some adults too .

Am saying this with a heavy heart. Animation was a big part of my childhood, and still holds a very special place in my heart as a young adult. A canine parody of prison films didn't seem such a bad idea and neither did incorporating a pertinent, relevant and important message about bullying.
What a disappointment 'Ozzy' turned out to be. The advertising may not have been promising but there was enough to make me want to see it (wanting to see as many animated films as possible and the concept). So some may not have been expecting much in the first place, but to me 'Ozzy' could have been decent with the right execution. Will start with the good things. It starts off well and the soundtrack is catchy. Everything else fails spectacularly. And no nobody expects Disney or Pixar level when watching an animated film not made by them, that's just silly.
One does though expect to see a film and animation that looks as though effort was put into them and the sense that those involved cared. That's where 'Ozzy' falls.
There is certainly worse animation around. Video Brinquedo is a very good example. A very good case can also be put for Spark Plug Entertainment, Dingo Pictures and the CGI 'Swan Princess' and 'Alpha and Omega' sequels. That doesn't stop 'Ozzy', although the animation quality doesn't come close to the amateurishness of the above, from looking very flat and blocky, it lacks vibrancy and crisp detail and none of the characters look appealing.
Nothing interesting or likable about the characters, with the conflict being as stock, hammy and sadistic as one can get. The voice acting doesn't fit these characters well, and some are hard to recognise (Rob Schneider especially).
It's the script and story that doom 'Ozzy' the most, after a promising start once the conflict and prison story is introduced the film falls drastically downhill and never recovers. The dialogue is mundane and contrived, while there is nothing witty or clever about the prison parodying, which will go over the heads of most children and be far too predictable and clumsily inserted for adults, or emotionally resonant about a potentially good but forced message about bullying completely lost amidst the constant target audience and tonal issues.
One seriously questions the maturity levels of the writers with potty humour so obvious and juvenile that even the most undemanding child will find their I.Q. dropping. Children and adults alike will be bothered by the tonally jarring and overdone darker elements where in particular characters are treated cruelly and the strands and types of characters being more suited to a film with a 15 or above certificate, where the writers clearly forgot about the younger viewers and tried too hard to provide content for adults and going way too far in that direction. The story lacks energy and is structurally and tonally disjointed throughout.
In short, there is worse but this is a disappointing mess. 2/10 Bethany Cox

the inevitably, someone will say it's "the worst" animation. This definitely isn't Pixar, but it's not the worst either (check out Video Brinquedo for some of the worst quality cgi animation.) Not all traditional animation is at the same level as Fantasia, and people seem to be able to accept that, but if it's cgi, and it doesn't look like the multi-million dollar product of Illumination or Blue Sky or Dreamworks animation, everyone is going to call it "the worst"

Never mind the ... well outdated animation. Hopefully you can do that, otherwise you may already have at least one issue with this movie. Of course as I understand some have an issue with the tone too. I think some are underestimating kids nowadays. They can and are aware of more things than we think they are and they can deal with what is displayed here.
That doesn't mean that there aren't jokes mostlyy aimed at the adults watching this. Prison theme and other stuff that may feel weird to say the least for kids watching. But nothing they will be traumatized by. No the worst animated movie I've seen .. and cute dogs are cute dogs. Also it does have a nice message overall

Effectively this is a prison genre movie but animated and dogs are the main characters. It is not a bad story but the animation is not the best quality. Also the concepts within the movie are not really appropriate for children. I think it loses many points for not being a children's film as it claims.
Animations have evolved into highly entertaining movies for both kids and adults. This movie was the opposite of that. I'm still trying to figure out how this made it to the big screen. The lack of dialogue made it painful to watch all the while ripping off ideas from great movies such as Shawshank Redemption and The Castle.
The only time I smiled was when I got up to leave.

It was listed under family movies on CraveTV.
It's not for small kids an not well done.
Basically it is a rip-off of several animated prison movies done with animated dogs and a nonsensical "plot"
There are dogs with big teeth, prison riots, fire, smoke and threats of violence... you know... for kids

While this film may seem like a children's movie at first sight, it is actually much deeper than that. If you look deeper into it, you will see it is actually an allegory to the events of World War II, the Nazi regime, and its profound and damaging effect in Europe. I was surprised by the negative reviews it has received, but have come to the conclusion that the film is ahead of its time, and modern audiences are just not ready for it.

This movie seems like a cute kids' movie, but includes a line in which a dog tells another "I want you to kill yourself". And there is lots of talk of being killed. I am livid that this is rated G.

What the heck is this. This movie is so god awful and formulaic. This movie is just a prison escape movie but with dogs. The only time this movie laughed was when I saw the 10 star rating on this web site, the movie is not funny, the mc is a whiny insufferable character.. ; ) You know, you can see the movie inside the scene where they are sneaking into the room. I mean this is good by illumination standards tho. The emotional scenes made me cry of pain. How in the REDACTED did the family believe the warden!? The animation is god awful, and this movie is so bad, it shouldn't even be free, they should pay YOU. The comic relief is unfunny and makes mater sound like a comedian. The only reason this is a 4/10 is because there is worse stuff. The best part of this movie was the credits, which were admittedly cute. Speaking of which the character designs are terrible and what kinda dog wears goggles?
There are no spoilers here as this cartoon doesn't really have a plot. This is a 2016 animation but I swear they have used a 3d game engine from the early 2000's to make this, I actually feel embarrassed for the makers of this. I have seen games with better in play graphics than this rubbish. Best to avoid this.

My 3 year old asked me to turn it off because it was scary. Admittedly, it is very dark and sad. Young children do not need to know about prison! Should be aged 12.

Ozzy is lovable, adorable or cute animation. It's really a great animation, although it has a simple plot. But it's kind of a great animation. Because this animation is very good to enjoy, I don't have that much to say. All in all is that this animation is one of the best animations that I've ever watched. I totally love it. 😁

Ozzy is a suburban dog whose biggest problem is a sadistic paper boy and his viscous dog. When his family goes on a trip, he is put up in a high end doggie spa. In reality, the palatial kennel is nothing but a front. The dogs are shipped off to a prison work camp making frisbees.
I have issues with the story but mostly it's the animation where this could improve. It's a Spanish-Canadian coproduction and it looks more than a decade obsolete. It has no chance to be the top of the line. They should learn to be more like Blue Sky where the animation is more cartoon and gear the story towards kids. I don't think a doggie prison is kiddie material. There are numerous other issues. Overall, this is simply inferior.

The animation would have been pretty amazing 15 years ago, but by today's standards it looks like this film was made by a bunch of 3rd year animation students. The plot is full of basic tropes and any attempt at humor was lost on my entire family. My 6 year old laughed once at the very end at a dog in a mailbox. The writing and cinematography fall flat. The script includes a lot of bullying in the form of physical and verbal abuse, and the overall "doggie prison" theme may be a bit dark for younger kids. There are lots of poop and pee jokes, as well as name calling.
At no point during that hour and a half did I feel any emotion other than boredom.

This movie has some very adult themes and had to stop halfway through. It started out well enough but then went down hill. I wouldn't recommend this for the family because it touches on some very gritty and dark themes. I would not watch this with any child under the age of thirteen because the adult is left with so many questions to explain to a child who has difficulty in understanding the ways of the world.

I watch this movie since i watch the secret life of pets, but it's not. It's just a wrong movie called Ozzy, not the secret life of pets. I really hate that movie. And i perfer The secret life of pets instead.

Not as bad as some described. Great conversation starter for talking about making difficult choices, meaning of friendship, loyalty, having good character, self sacrifice, and lots more with children. Animation is early Scooby Do; dialogue is good; characterization is very good; and plot moves along enjoyably well. Shouldn't be scary for children and can easily be relatable to their school experiences. Won't watch again for myself alone but would not hesitate to watch again with young children who want to see it.
It's really an 8 to me, but gave a 10 to offset extremely low ratings that seemed too critical.

To anyone that says that this is inappropriate for children I think you need to reassess yourself. This is a children's film and having a prison setting doesn't make it inappropriate.
Besides that the film itself is harmless but by enlarge very forgettable, the first act of the film is completely forgettable as in I can't remember anything about it, the acting is passable but again just okay. The same can be said for the animation, there are times where it looks very rough around the edges and looks like it was still in production.
The story is again not great but harmless, as another reviewer said "Shawshank Redemption with Dogs".
If you've got nothing else to watch I'd give it a go to waste some time.

This movie looks like a 8 year olds source film makers side project in terms of animation but it's kinda endearing with the plot, characters, and overall message being nothing to write home out. It's still fun if you look at it though a ironic/joke watch kinda way, I smoked a bunch before watching this and it was honestly one of the best movie experiences I've had since Barbie. 5/10, only fun for small kids and people who wanna have fun/ kills time, don't watch it if you're genuinely trying to have a good film experience. The review is technically over so imma just say random stuff related to the movie. It kinda reminds me of that one movie about that talking bat and there was this kid and they went on an adventure or something and there was a gender swap baseball bat love interest.
