What a difference two episodes can make; so far in “Survivor 45,” two tight allies turned on each other, an unlikely pair emerged as a power duo, a player went from the bottom to a major deciding position, and there are new types of advantages and creative ways to retrieve idols. Let’s break down Episode 3, titled “No Man Left Behind,” and the latest from “Survivor 45” as we are about to head into our first tribe swap of the new era.
Starting with the Belo tribe, much has changed within the social dynamics with some cracks in the women’s alliance of Katurah Topps, Kellie Nalbandian and Kendra McQuarrie, with Kendra bonding with Jake O’Kane, and Kellie forming a connection with Brando Meyer, with the latter duo claiming to be in the middle deciding whether to go with the alliance of the men or the women, since Jake is also very close with Bruce Perreault.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “No Man Left Behind,” the Oct. 11 episode of “Survivor,” now streaming on Paramount+.
“That’s such a great name. That’s so ironic!”
That’s how my Thursday morning conversation with Sabiyah Broderick, the latest “Survivor” castaway to be voted off the island, began. She’s referring to her tribemate, Emily Flippen, who ultimately turned on her and wrote down her name at tribal, securing her ticket off the island.
During Wednesday’s episode, Lulu went to their third tribal council — there have only been three this season — and while Sabiyah had thought Kaleb Gebrewold was going home, she was blindsided when Kaleb and Emily both wrote her name down. (Shawn Edwards was the only one to write down Kaleb’s name.)
Going into tribal, Sabiyah admits she felt “a lot more safe than I should have,” something that was clear by her...

Heading into the third episode of “Survivor 45,” the Lulu tribe was down two castaways (Hannah Rose and Brandon Donlon) after they lost another immunity challenge. The Belo and Reba tribes were still sitting strong at six members apiece, but all of that can change depending on who wins tonight’s third immunity challenge. So how did everything play out on Wednesday night?

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 45 Episode 3, “No Man Left Behind.”] In this new era of Survivor, new idols and advantages haven’t always been a hit. The Change History advantage (the hourglass), for example, wasn’t well received by the cast or fans, as it could cancel out a player’s hard-earned individual immunity. The show retired the advantage after Season 42 and has clearly learned from the critiques over it and other new twists. In Survivor 45, however, idols and advantages are only as good as you play them — as they should be. And the Lulu tribe learned that all too well in Episode 3. Lulu started out on a high with its first challenge win. The reward challenge victory got Lulu a large platter of fruit and the chance to raid another tribe for one item. Lulu sent the charismatic Kaleb, whose physical performance was key to their first challenge win. He took the...

‘Survivor 45’ sneak peek video: Sabiyah gaslights Emily about her non-vote at tribal council [Watch]
During last week’s second episode of “Survivor 45,” the Lulu tribe lost immunity once again and had to visit Jeff Probst at tribal council. As it turns out, two of the five tribe members couldn’t vote, which meant only three people cast votes. Jeff ended up reading two of those votes aloud before declaring, “That’s enough,” and now Emily is questioning the math of it all. Watch the “Survivor 45” sneak peek video above.
“Tribal council went relatively well,” Emily tells the camera. “But I was really confused because Jeff read my vote — I had voted for Brandon — a second vote, and then said ‘Brandon, you’re voted out.’ And, according to my math, knowing that Brandon did not have a vote, there should have been four total votes. So that made me think that maybe there weren’t four votes, maybe there were only three votes.”
