"Es por tu bien" is based on a premise which belongs to an age of antideluvian macho men I really thought Spain no longer had
maybe i was wrong; maybe they still have them or they pumped up the stereotypes for comedic purpose. There is a German version titled "Es ist zu deinem Besten" released in 2020.
It also appears that there is also a version in Italian titled "È per il tuo bene" also 2020.
As of April 2021 neither have reviews; but it shows that the storyline resonates if it was remade in others EU countries
But let us for a minute go back to the premise: these 3 men deal with their daughters as if they were property; quasi-cattle. They wish to separate them from their in their eyes "undesirable" boyfriends/fiancés and will stop at nothing to achieve that aim
If this came from 1620 or even 1720 or let us say 1820 we would laugh and applaud but the fact that it is made in 2017 after 40 years of feminism and gradual painfully slowly creeping equality for women really sticks in your maw and there is ABSOLUTELY no bypassing that ...
Is it funny? No. Unless you have the mind of a 6-year old in the body of a right-wing quinquagenerian lawyer
Was very disappointed. Spanish Cinema is most often progressive and thought-inducing
This harks back to the days of the Caudillo; and really unapologetically
The acting tho is excellent from all and it is really well-made so will give it a 6.
