The trailer was so much better than the movie. Story line was iffy at best. It wasn't even entertaining.
Obvious (very) low budget film. I watched about a half an hour of it and that was all I could take. The acting was deadpan and sub-par. The sets were lacking. It was just a bad movie. Now, the premise was good and the trailer was good. But the movie wasn't.

The movie tried but missed the mark.
If the sets are anything to go by, this film looks and feels low budget. The acting (or lack there of) was strained, almost overacting. The movie needed a lot of things to improve it, but what it needed most was a capable director.
VERDICT: Not recommended viewing.

Is this a joke?
Please, stop talking.
Wow, this is awful.
These were my repeating thoughts, over and over, for 40 straight minutes until I turned it off. Painful dialogue. Terrible actors. This film must have strategically released after the deadline for this year's Golden Raspberry Awards, or it would have been a shoe-in for a Razzie. Maybe multiple.

Confused plot, standard fight scenes poorly acted tell me whne to stop.

Unfortunately, it missed the mark. The story premise isn't bad at all. But the overacting doesn't help it. If you like action you might enjoy it. I didn't enjoy it enough to recommend.

The film was quite boring almost unwatchable. At the same time, fighting scenes were kind of good and I didn't notice that it was a low-budget film in those scenes. As some of the viewers mentioned this film had great potential and I don't mind the quality and characters but it really needs to have a better story. When friends of the main character were killed I felt nothing because they were fake and unremarkable in a sense that the main character didn't care too much about their fate. The mysterious man that granted the powers to the character, who is that? What is his interest? So... No story even the main threads of the film were not elaborated enough... But good try.

Well, granted, I must admit that I was expecting quite a bit more from writer and director R. L. Scott than what was actually delivered here in this 2021 action movie titled "Lazarus".
And it was a shame because there was so much potential readily available here, but the movie ended up as being a slow paced and rather uninteresting one. And I have to admit that I was quickly losing interest in the movie as the storyline was so unfathomably boring and the characters were just drones milling about with no personalities or anything.
Initially I was a bit thrilled with the movie as it proved to be interesting enough, sort of had that "Spawn" comic book anti-hero thing going on. But then everything just turned to rubbish and was killed off most horribly by an utter lack of storyline and pacing.
Visually then "Lazarus" was not impressive, and it definitely didn't feel like a 2021 action movie. So there is no need to amp up your level of expectations for this movie.
"Lazarus" was a swing and a miss from writer and director R. L. Scott, especially since there was just so much wasted potential readily available here.
My rating of "Lazarus" lands on a mere three out of ten stars, as the movie turned out to be more boring than anything else.

As a B movie it's 8/10. It could have been much better, feeling like a movie made in the 90s. The premise drew me in, the storyline is ok, but the casting and set is below par for an A movie.
Not worth the time.. I can't believe this went through the process of casting all the way down to release.

Disconnected story, lousy direction, wooden acting, no actual plot. Bad cinematography, shaky footage, editing by no one. Trailer interesting, film 1:43 too long.

The good: The movie has an excellent concept for an action/hero film. Sean Riggs(Ray Lazarus) is believable and strangely good as the main character: strangely, because so much of the rest of the acting (or maybe the writing) is so profoundly bad. No, I take that back. If Vin Diesel and Keanu Reeves are allowed to lead action franchises with top billing, Sean Riggs should be given the gold star for his performance in this film.
If you're just out to watch a quick-and-dirty film where people get hit a lot, Lazarus has that. Along with some very eye catching set design and decent sfx. The set and wardrobe designers clearly took financial setbacks as artistic opportunities and it shows: no money to build an entire apartment on your warehouse set? Just hang a bunch of windows as decorations and play it off like an artistic uptown loft. Honestly, kudos.
The bad: Let's start with the run time. While it's true that we have gotten some longer hero movies recently, it's also true that most people didn't like them. For a movie that starts in the middle of the plot and tells us almost nothing about the character, 1 hour and 50 minutes feels.... a bit obnoxious. Action films aren't exactly known for their acting, but the main characters are usually at least able to create some sort of instant emotion in the viewer. This film confusingly turns a mentor into a bad guy, and makes the bad guy so sympathetic that you kinda wonder why he kills people.
The funny : Lines obviously written for a woman speaking English as a second language are delivered in the MOST American Monotone ever. If you can, imagine Carrie Bradshaw saying "My good brother, I lie awake at night thinking of the pain this causes you." You can't make this up.
The redeemer: The guy has a really cool power. And if the film spent more time on his back story and character arc instead of having a weird sidekick with strange sexual energy following him around to continually pad the run time with descriptions of his power, this would be actually be... Pretty amazing (I'm as shocked as you are)
.... But it does. It's like watching some coked out version of Teen Titans where Beast Boy continually pops up to go "Hey Robin, you ha..... ve no powers" that's a bad example "Hey Starfire you can float... Don't forget to float" and "hrnnnnrrghhgaaah when you float.....hfrrrgghhnnnrrhhhaaa I need a cigarette"
It's weird. It's just weird.
What the don't?
The film claims to be based on the novel "the man who fell to earth" but honestly, it's more like Black Lightning, Blade and Spawn had an illicit love child. Which is totally fine. But own it.
TL;DR Should you watch this?
If you enjoy action/hero films, you've already seen them all, and the boys did nothing for you... . If you love seeing what can be done on a less than high budget.... If you sat through the entire fast and furious franchise without any part of your brain going numb... if you like watching people get hit by other people... If you're jonesing so hard for hero films that you might accidentally watch DC's "The Losers" Yes.... And in the case of that last one... Please.
If you're a hero film snob who washes your caviar down with Evian wine (aged 100 years) while watching Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Avengers Franchise in an endless loop (no judgement) probably not.

The trailer looked good and gave me high expectations. Man, was I misled. There is no excuse experienced writer and director R. L. Scott giving us this amateur hour 5th grade drama class level "Black Panther wannabe in the Hood" mess. The concept of the story was actually interesting, but every aspect of the execution was a fail. I was begging for the 105 min runtime to end, as it felt endless. Absolutely horrible directing and acting - with the exception of cutie Aeriel Miranda, who was the only convincing actor, and easy on the eyes as well. The fight choreography was 1980's, and whoever played the other hooded blue eyed tuff guy was cringeworthy, especially his attempt at pre-fight katas. The sound was bad and the score dreadful. This did have hope to be good, but Scott ruined any chance of that. Time for Film Class 101. It's a generous 3/10 from me.

Horrible acting. Every line is like the actors are looking out of the corner of there eyes for a response from director. Its like they are trying to talk loudly and do things to get someone's attention to get you in trouble. The shaky camera work made me sea sick at times and I never get sea sick. If there is a saving grace if at all is Nicki Micheaux. She is the only person that didn't make it feel like my 4 year old granddaughter directed this. I didn't think a move could be worse than Cosmic Sin but i was wrong.

The plot was great!!! Slightly different than any other super hero movie. If you in fact consider it a super hero movie??? Confusing. Whoever wrote this movie has a looooong way to know what's even slightly decent. I feel bad for saying this because I'm not writer, but it was mediocre at its best. I would like to say worse, but again, I'm not a writer.
The main character did an amazing job given the fact that all the lines were horrible. I'll also give my kudos to Mya, I feel like she was the second best actor/actress in this movie. And I love her.
All in all, my husband fell asleep and I continued to roll my eyes over and over again about how bad the writing was/acting. This could have been soooooo much better. I understand that it was probably a low budget movie, but someone should have spoken up about the horrible writing.

This was a fun movie. I definitely wanted more action and less talking. The action is fine. It consists of brutal fights and also some martial arts. Certain characters needed more of a backstory. The villains are bad and want to sell drugs and the heroes are good and want to stop the flood of drugs in the community. The love interest is beautiful, and I want to see more of her. The best part of the film are the cool action scenes which feature a lot of hand-to-hand combat. The main selling point of this film is that it is one of the few films that feature an African American superhero. This is about a man and his former military friends who wants to fight crime. Highly recommended for people who want to see a film with an African American hero who is unstoppable and can fight. Highly recommended. There are a few unnecessary F-bombs. Many people are beaten to death and many necks are broken. No sex or nudity.

I want to preface this with: I enjoy bad movies and I think most content has something you can like about it, at least I did.
This film was so bad I barely have words. The script was excruciating to listen to. What passes for characters have zero depth at all. They didn't even flesh out a setting, just bad people in bad city doing bad things badly, insert anti-hero who kills and gets all the answers automatically because... magic...?
You could say the idea of this film had potential except its a poor imitation of most other superhero stories.
I didn't go in expecting this to be a blockbuster but I did think I'd be able to get through it and find something to merit the time spent. I'll never get that time back, don't waste yours!
