The series consistently received high ratings. In 2005, the writer John R. Bradley attributed the series' popularity to its ability to depict the frustrations associated with many social and regional issues. Something which resonates with segments of the Saudi population.
From 1992 to 2005, the series was broadcast by Al Saudiya/Saudi TV Channel 1. Al Saudiya is a state-owned channel supervised by the Ministry of Media. From 2005 to 2011, the series was broadcast by the private channel MBC1. MBC1 is one of several satellite channels owner by the media conglomerate Middle East Broadcasting Center.
According to a 2004 article by "Arab News", the cast of the series had received death threats, A comedy sketch ridiculing terrorists had been perceived as offensive by "extremists".
