In the garage band practice scene, Reese's guitar broke its B string. The actor only had a G string. This was unique to play guitar throughout the movie with an over-tuned G string for more violent guitar playing. Typical guitar customization include down-tuning the top E string to a D for heavier sounding power chords. Nobody has been known to make the higher notes heavier with thicker strings.
