Elijah Solisnki (Myles Truitt) is a teenager with few resources. One day stumbles upon a sophisticated weapon of strange origin. He picks up a strange weapon, but drops it and flees after it mechanically activates. All he needed was a way out and it is your basic disintegrator gun like Buck Rogers may have owned. The young boy who could easily become a gang member has a surprising deadly weapon. But it won't be the only big event that disrupts his routine: his brother Jimmy (Jack Reynor) has just returned home after spending six years in prison. That evening, Eli's newly paroled older brother Jimmy, Hal's (Dennis Quaid) biological son, returns home to Hal's chagrin. Eli dreams of the weapon and sneaks out to retrieve it. Sneaking back in, he overhears Hal and Jimmy arguing. Jimmy owes $60,000 in protection money to Taylor (James Franco) , a local crime lord, and asks Hal to help him steal the money from Hal's employer. Hal refuses and kicks Jimmy out. No force is stronger than family !. Some things aren't meant to be found !.
Jack Reynor, Dennis Quaid, Zoë Kravitz, James Franco and newcomer boy Myles Truitt as starring are some of the good leading actors in this apocalyptic science fiction film. ¨Kin¨ combines family drama with elements typical of action thrillers and road movies. It focuses on a persecution against the two brothers carried out by a dangerous vengeful boss with whom they are indebted and also two other strange characters are behind them trying recover the powerful weapon that was found by the little brother. Writers & directors Jonathan & Josh Baker have created a neat, spectacular, action-packed drama, with notable photography, and authentic looking settings. However, being a box office bomb, not recovering at all the money invested in it.
The film takes parts from other stories especially from the eighties, such as "Laserblast" by Michael Raeburn, although this was more of a story of revenge in which a frustrated young mind finds a powerful and deadly laser which was lefts near his home by aliens, seeking vendetta against all who have taken advantage of him, and ¨My Science Project¨ (1985) by Jonathan Betuel in which a student finds a strange, orb-like piece of equipment to use as a science project, but must stop it when it begins to threaten mankind . Furthermore, the story pays tribute to James Cameron films.
The motion picture was uneven but professionally directed by two brothers: Jonathan Baker and Josh Baker who previously made shorts amd here they partially carried out an adaptation from their short feature called Bag Man (2014). The Bakers used this fifteen minute as the basis for their later movie "Kin," which was a third as good as this short. Of course, the movie "Kin" boasts a bigger budget, but the Baker brothers raise more questions than they can answer. Because the film Kin (2018) was a resounding commercial failure, the directors have not made any films after this one; so the movie grossing just $9 million on a $30 million budget. Rating: 5.5/10, pretty standard stuff.
