Netflix is losing a Top Gun-esque movie starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. While the streaming service is known for original movies and TV shows including Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Wednesday, Carry-On, and Leave the World Behind, their library is also populated with titles that are licensed from other companies. As these licensing agreements expire or change quite often, every month there are usually quite a few titles either joining or leaving Netflix.
The Top Gun-inspired movie that is departing the platform soon is one of these licensed titles, and it is particularly star-studded. Jamie Foxx is a well known multihyphenate who is a stand-up comedian and musician along with being a decorated actor, having won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 musical biopic Ray. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor that same year for his work in Collateral.

Netflix's 1992 may be a unique addition to the crime thriller genre, but viewers looking for something similar to watch have a long list of shows to choose from. Created by Jorge Guerricaechevarría and Álex de la Iglesia, 1992 centers on two characters, Richi and Amparo, who form an unlikely alliance to solve a series of interconnected murder mysteries. However, the closer they get to catching the killer, the more they realize there is more to his motives than meets the eye.
1992's title comes from its past timeline, which adopts Seville Expo '92 as the primary trigger event that sets off a series of political and criminal upheavals in the future. Although the show adopts many well-worn tropes of the genre and struggles to etch its unique identity in the genre, it manages to conclude on a well-rounded note, barely leaving any plot threads hanging. Owing to this, many viewers...

Bonnie Hammer’s long tenure at NBCUniversal is coming to an end.
The exec, who is currently Vice Chairman, NBCUniversal, a “strategic advisor” role, is set to exit the company after the end of her current contract.
It is unrelated to the corporate shake-up that happened this week that saw a slew of cable networks spun-off into a new company, leaving NBC, Peacock and Bravo under the NBCU umbrella.
After starting her career at Wgbh-tv, where she produced This Old House, Hammer worked at Lifetime before joining Universal Television in 1989. She also worked at then-titled Sci-Fi before Universal Television merged with NBC and she became president of USA Network.

A Netflix murder mystery series has just scored a season 2 renewal after season 1 earned an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. For many households, Netflix is the go-to streaming service. The streamer offers an abundance of licensed content, but also puts out popular original shows and movies across all genres. The mystery thriller series, however, has become something of a Netflix staple.
Netflix shows like Mindhunter, Ozark, and The Sinner cater to those looking for more serious mystery thriller offerings, while shows like Fool Me Once and The Perfect Couple are more soapy and fun. Netflix also offers a further sub-genre of the mystery thriller show with titles aimed at teen and young adult audiences, which includes hit shows like Wednesday and Outer Banks. Another teen mystery show, however, featuring a Wednesday cast member, struck a chord with viewers earlier this year.

There are few TV shows as consistently compelling as a mystery series. Though lighthearted crime drama TV shows are a fun way to pass the time, there's something uniquely enrapturing about a series that creates a foreboding atmosphere and imparts a sense of dread to the viewer. These series typically incorporate horror and thriller elements into the story and have a cohesive visual style that creates a moody feel as much as the plot. For audiences looking to be immersed in a narrative unafraid to get serious and almost surreal, these shows are perfect.
It's impossible to guess the killer right away in these murder mysteries, as the stories are full of twists and turns that leave the audience guessing until the end. While the crime aspects are vital to the plot, these series are character-driven, focusing on the detectives who take on the investigation and unravel them. The detectives...

Mr Robot showrunner Sam Esmail’s Battlestar Galactica reboot needs a new home as streaming platform Peacock has reportedly passed on it.

Originally announced in 2019, the Battlestar reboot was being overseen by Sam Esmail, creator of hit series Mr Robot, who was executive producer under his own company, Esmail Corp. Various writers had come and gone over its long gestation, while 2023’s Hollywood strikes also delayed work on show.

The long-gestating reboot of the popular sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica, from Sam Esmail’s Esmail Corp., is no longer set up at Peacock.
First announced as being in development at the NBCUniversal streamer in 2019, the new incarnation of Battlestar Galactica never got to a green light but remained in development, including a writer change within the past year as The Sinner creator Derek Simonds came on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner.
That version of the project from Simonds will now be shopped to other platforms by its studio, Peacock’s NBCUniversal sibling UCP.
A new take on the classic IP, the latest incarnation is executive produced by Simonds as well as Esmail Corp’s Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Battlestar Galactica has been a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Esmail who is a big fan of the original.

However, this may not be the end of the project, as an individual with knowledge of the situation said that it will be shopped to other outlets.

“Battlestar Galactica” will not chronicle its next chapter on Peacock. A planned reboot for the classic sci-fi hit is no longer in development at the streamer, an insider close to the decision-making told TheWrap.
The project had been in development since 2019, helmed by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”). It was never officially picked up to series at Peacock, and though no plot details were revealed, the show was set to be set in the same timeline as the popular 2003 series.
The news comes months after “The Sinner” EP Derek Simonds was tapped to be writer, executive producer and showrunner. The reboot will now be shopped around to other outlets by its production company, UCP, with whom Esmail has an overall deal. The project was in development with UCP, Esmail Corp and Chad Hamilton.
“Battlestar Galactica” was first introduced in the ’70s as a single-season show starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene.

Usually, when we see space in cinema, it’s usually accompanied by the word “opera” or “epic.” Enter Emma Roberts as a Florida Girl who wants nothing more than to get to space, and you’ve got Space Cadet, a lighthearted romantic (?) comedy that feels more cheerleader camp than serious space institution. These aren’t usually my types of films but I will always take the opportunity to be able to interview Chanel Oberlin from Scream Queens, Kiki from Hacks, and Billy Bone from Black Sails. So join me as I talk to stars Emma Roberts, Poppy Liu, Tom Hopper and writer/director Liz W. Garcia about their new film, Space Cadet (read our review here).

Jessica Biel felt like she’d found her true partner in husband Justin Timberlake. So much so that Biel thought, without the family she created, she’d be a mess.
Jessica Biel once explained how her family kept her from falling apart Jessica Biel | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Biel and Timberlake share two kids from a long 12-year marriage. They had two sons born in 2015 and 2017. As is the case with many, becoming a mother was a huge adjustment period for the actor. But Biel couldn’t gush enough about the experience. Although it came with its challenges, the benefits of motherhood seemed to far outweigh the drawbacks.
“It’s sometimes hard to find the words [to describe motherhood]. So amazing. So lovely. I’m over the moon,” Biel once told People (via Toronto). “Honestly, I would say motherhood [is the most difficult role I’ve done]. It’s probably the most challenging job in the world, but also the most joyous.

You can’t blame Bill Pullman for feeling hesitant about taking on the lead role in Lifetime’s two-part limited series Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.
It’s not that the SAG-nominated actor was worried about going dark — he’d done so not long ago, and brilliantly, in USA’s The Sinner — he simply just wasn’t aware of the tragic story of South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, who was convicted in 2023 of murdering his wife and son.
“I didn’t know about him!” Pullman revealed during the THR Frontrunners Lifetime Showcase held June 6 at San Vicente Bungalows in Los Angeles. “Then I asked the people in my life about the case, and they said, ‘Oh, I hate that guy!’ I thought, ‘Ok this is a nonstarter.'”

Jessica Biel has talked about keeping her children with Justin Timberlake away the prying eyes of the paparazzi. And the actress indicated that the family may have moved away from Los Angeles partly for their kids’ privacy.
Biel appeared on the latest episode of Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera, where Ripa marveled about how she’s been able to keep her kids’ faces off of social media.
“Do the paparazzi respect that in general? Do you find that you have to remind them?,” Ripa asked.

Like most big stars in Hollywood these days, Jessica Biel runs a production company, and while she’s achieved success as an actress, the lack of success for her company affected her mentally for many years.
Jessica Biel – Says Her Production Company Saw Little To No Success During Its First Ten Years Of Operation
Even as a successful actress, finding success for the production company she co-founded with business partner Michelle Purple, Iron Ocean, was a 20 year process. In fact it was so hard for Biel sometimes that she thought of quiting the whole thing altogether.
“Doors did not open at all, even being in the business for so long,” Biel said on the May 15 episode of The Bright Side podcast. “I’ve had this production company with my partner, Michelle Purple, for 20 years. I started it with her when I was 22 and for the first 10 years, we had almost no success at all.

Jessica Biel was so invested in making The Sinner that she was ready to quit Hollywood if the anthology series didn’t sell.
Biel, who earned an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination for her season one role as Cora Tennetti and continued to executive produce the anthology series through its four seasons at USA, detailed on podcast The Bright Side how much working on the show meant to her.
The actress recalled that “doors did not open at all” for her production company, Iron Ocean, which she started with her business partner Michelle Purple 20 years ago. For the first 10 years, they experienced “almost no success at all” she said.
Though the production company was able to make the 2012 film The Tall Man, Biel said it wasn’t until “many years later” that they were introduced to The Sinner, which turned out to be Iron Ocean’s first major venture into TV.
