Alexander Tuschinski wrote the screenplay to "Revolution!" in 2010, right after finishing post production of his film Menschenliebe (2010) . He originally intended Revolution to be a direct sequel to Menschenliebe, showing Arnold a few years after the events of the first films as a rather cynical, dis-illusioned young man. But he postponed producing the script and wrote/directed Timeless (2016) first, which also references the Arnold/Konstantin storyline from Menschenliebe. To him, the three films form an informal "Trilogy of Rebellion".
