While you may not remember when the stature of Nicolas Cage and his acting ability became the stuff of legend, rest assured it did and Tom Gormican’s film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent sets out to ensure that everyone recognizes how utterly fantastic Mr. Cage is.
The film follows actor Nicolas Cage as, facing an uncertain financial future and dwindling acting prospects, he is forced to accept a rather lucrative offer to appear at the birthday party of a wealthy fan played by Pedro Pascal. Intending to retire after the party appearance rids him of his debts, Cage finds himself recruited by CIA agents Vivan (Tiffany Haddish) and Martin (Ike Barinholtz) to provide intelligence on his superfan, whom they believe to be a notorious drug smuggler.

Much ado has been made about Nicolas Cage’s larger-than-life movies and acting panache. The Oscar winner— whose cinematic presence has endured throughout four decades — has headlined countless genres, including B movies-turned-cult classics (“Vampire’s Kiss”), action blockbusters (“Face/Off”), romantic comedies (“Moonstruck”), weighty dramas (“Leaving Las Vegas”), independent projects (“Pig”) and trippy indies (“Adaptation.”). It’s this versatility of character portrayals, varying degrees of flamboyant line delivery and an extraordinary off-screen persona that have transformed Cage into an unwitting walking, talking (and sometimes yelling) meme.
The memeification of Cage has in and of itself spurred a Cage-ification of pop culture, and that’s the foundation for Lionsgate’s “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” which stars Cage as his greatest character yet — himself. Rather, a fictionalized, off-the-wall and sometimes CGI-produced young version of himself.

Exclusive: Following a busy fall in both the film and TV worlds, Adrien Brody is looking to stay busy as he set to join Apple Original Films’ Ghosted, starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Dexter Fletcher is directing.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing, along with Jules Daly. Evans will serve as producer and de Armas as an executive producer. The film’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, also will be producers. They developed the project based on an original idea of theirs and pre-emptively sold it to Skydance.
The project is described as a high-concept romantic action-adventure film, and Apple acquired the high-profile project during the summer.
As for Brody, The Pianist Oscar winner’s busy fall began with his scene-stealing role in the acclaimed third season of Succession. He followed that up by reuniting with Wes Anderson on The French Dispatch.

After setting its recent films Without Remorse, The Tomorrow War and The Old Guard at streamers, David Ellison’s Skydance Media has made a multi-year agreement with Apple to develop and produce an annual slate of live-action global-minded movies that will be released through Apple Original Films.

Skydance Media, the maker of “The Tomorrow War” and “Mission: Impossible,” will develop and produce a slate of live action films as part of a new multi-year pact with Apple Original Films.
The move between the production company and the tech giant has been rumored for months, with buzz building after Apple and Skydance brokered a similar deal for animated films and series. The news is yet another signal of the shift in power in the entertainment landscape from traditional media companies to streaming giants.
Skydance had long been most closely associated with one of those legacy companies in Paramount Pictures. They last signed a four-year theatrical distribution deal with the ViacomCBS-owned studio in 2017, which recently expired. Skydance head David Ellison and former Paramount leader Jim Gianopulos were increasingly at odds over releasing films in a pandemic-struck market, insiders familiar with the companies said.

Scarlett Johansson and Disney might currently be on less-than-friendly terms, but that doesn't mean the actor can't join forces once more with one of her Marvel co-stars for an entirely separate project. Chris McKay, director of the upcoming “The Tomorrow War,” is in talks to direct and produce Universal Pictures’ “Renfield,” a monster movie centered around Dracula’s sidekick and based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman.
Ryan Ridley wrote the script. Plot details are being kept deep inside Dracula’s crypt.
The film will be produced by Skybound Entertainment’s film team, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. McKay’s producing partner Samantha Nisenboim will be joining the project as executive producer.
Universal remains committed to creating compelling, filmmaker-driven projects based on characters from the studio’s vast monsters legacy. Instead of prescribing a mandated updating of these monster stories and making them all part of a larger scheme, the studio loosened these restrictions and open-sourced to filmmakers who were inspired to create their own unique stories; similar to what was done with the “Invisible Man...

After the documentary Catfish was released in 2010 and the MTV reality series started airing, everyone was used to the idea of someone lying about their identity while chatting with a potential love interest online. Even though most of the relationships don't work out, the show is still exciting and entertaining to watch.

Fox’s new “The Masked Singer” spinoff has found its host.
“The Masked Dancer,” which is inspired by a segment on Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime show, will be hosted by Craig Robinson. The move expands Robinson’s relationship with Fox, after he starred in the network’s supernatural sitcom “Ghosted” a couple years ago.
In a surprise to no-one, Ken Jeong will be one of the show’s panelists, adding a third game show (after “Masked Singer” and “I Can See Your Voice”) to his growing Fox repertoire. Joining him will be choreographer and singer Paula Abdul, actor and former “Masked Singer” contestant Brian Austin Green, and finally actress and singer Ashley Tisdale. An animated “X-Files” comedy series spinoff is in the works at Fox, Variety has confirmed.
The project is currently titled “The X-Files: Albuquerque.” It has received a script and presentation commitment at the broadcaster. The show would revolve around an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re basically the X-Files’ B-team.
“X-Files” creator Chris Carter is attached to executive produce the project, with Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko attached to write and executive produce. Gabe Rotter, who worked on the “X-Files” revival at Fox, will also executive produce. 20th Television and Fox Entertainment will produce. Bento Box will provide animation. Neither Gillian Anderson or David Duchovny is involved with the project at this time.

Nicolas Cage’s current status as a crazed-eyed paycheck-hunting star of contemporary schlock cinema seems to have reached the new evolutionary stage of conjuring meta-minded movie mirth with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. With Cage set to portray himself, it appears that the film has honed in on a momentum-riding co-star in Pedro Pascal.
Lionsgate is in talks with Pascal to co-star opposite Cage in the film, reports The Wrap. Should the deal be finalized, Pascal will play Javi, a character described as “a Nic Cage superfan who is not all that he appears to be.” The co-starring duo will be in front of the camera for director Tom Gormicon, who is known as the co-creator—alongside Kevin Etten—of Fox’s single-season 2017-2018 supernatural comedy, Ghosted, and a lone feature credit in 2014 ensemble comedy That Awkward Moment, which starred Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Zac Efron, Mackenzie Davis and Imogen Poots.
