As the short is based on the 1939 movie Wizard of Oz, the characters' names are based on the movie's original characters. Redhead Gale is named after Dorothy Gale, and the dictatorial Victor after the director Victor Fleming, who would have to order the others around and be obsessed with money and time management. The easy-going and peace-loving Bert is named after Bert Lahr (the Cowardly Lion) and Frank after Frank Baum who plays the Wizard as well as the Wizard of Oz books author, L. Frank Baum.

The party scene opening the short was filmed at the producer's house, leading her neighbors to think she was hosting a real masquerade ball. Thus in the post-credit outtakes, you hear a neighbor call out: "You having a party, Nina? You didn't invite me?"
