Husband and wife duo Nick Hall and Michelle Plum, from Bradford based band Plumhall, can be seen performing in the early pub scene.

In an interview in Yorkshire based magazine Luxe, director Richard Heap spoke about the symbolism of the donkeys. That they are generally seen as beasts of burden but within the context of The Runaways they symbolise the burden of the children's past. So while they lead them around the countryside the children are metaphorically carrying around their 'past' but in the film's final scene, when Angie and her younger siblings talk about putting the donkeys out to pasture, they are acknowledging that it Is time for them to move on and embrace the future, together.

It has been suggested that 'Man on Chair' is in fact the father of Reith and Blythe, grandfather to the children. As well as appearing sat on the cliff tops he also appears in the pub scene, the scene where Blythe and Tuff and Len are playing cards in the caravan and also on the quayside when Reith body comes in on the trawler. The character is played by Peter Clegg, who is a neighbour of the director.
