A Nevada Supreme Court judge ruled Tuesday that Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter can move forward with his counterclaim against Shannon “Shay” Ruth, who accused him of raping her when she was 17 years old on a tour bus.

According to documents obtained by People, Judge Nancy L. Allf denied Ruth’s anti-slapp motion against Carter’s countersuit because she “failed to satisfy her burden.”

Coming off the tremendous success of the recent “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” ID and its sister streamer Max will jointly run the four-part docuseries “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter” over two nights, on Monday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 28, at 9 p.m. Et.

In particular, the series will investigate the accusations of sexual assault against Nick Carter by three women, and will also dive into younger brother Aaron Carter’s struggles with mental health and substance abuse, leading to his death in 2022. “Fallen Idols” will additionally look at the relationship between the brothers, which took a turn when Aaron Carter began criticizing Nick Carter for those allegations and supporting his accusers.

“The Hollow” won the Heart of Sarajevo Award for best TV drama series at the Sarajevo Film Festival on Sunday, and also came away with a host of other awards.

The in-competition series came from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Slovenia. The winners were decided by a jury of more than 450 film professionals from the region.

“The Hollow” won the best director award for Danis Tanović, best known for directing Oscar winner “No Man’s Land,” and Aida Begić.

Other awards for the series included leading actor for Feđa Štukan, supporting actress for Ida Keškić, supporting actor for Boris Ler, and screenplay for Tanović, Amra Bakšić Čamo, Nikola Kuprešanin and Adnan Lugonić.

The Heart of Sarajevo awards for TV series, the Sarajevo Film Festival’s awards strand for TV shows, unraveled this evening, and they were dominated by two shows, the Serbian comedy Mom and Dad Are Playing War 2 (Tata Se Igraju Rata 2) and the Bosnian drama The Hollow (Kotlina).

Mom and Dad Are Playing War 2 took all six comedy awards during the ceremony. The series was created by the popular Serbian actor Gordan Kičić, who also serves as the lead actor, writer, and producer. The series, produced by Filmkombajn and Rts, follows Veljko, who gets the news his father has died. Upon returning to his family in Belgrade, many home truths are uncovered, and he stays longer than expected.

Speaking with Deadline following the sweep, Kičić said: “It’s a great feeling. I really didn’t believe we’d win all six awards. It’s a success for my production company and my team.

Melissa Schuman filed a lawsuit against Nick Carter for sexual assault and battery on Tuesday evening, accusing the Backstreet Boys singer of raping her when she was 18 in 2003.

Schuman, 38, wrote that Carter used “his role, status and power as a well-known singer to gain access to, groom, manipulate, exploit and sexually assault” her.

In some ways it’s a year of transition for the Sarajevo Film Festival, which sees former industry head and co-director Jovan Marjanović take the helm as festival director, while long-time staffer Maša Marković takes over as head of industry. For Marković, who began her career at the long-running Bosnian fest 15 years ago, the change “was kind of organic,” offering the kind of smooth transition that has allowed Sarajevo to retain its position as the leading industry confab in Southeast Europe.

It’s been a pretty good couple of months for streaming fans, and it seems like every platform is aiming to ensure viewers stuck inside have plenty to watch and enjoy until life resumes some sense of normalcy again. As the global lockdown continues, with no real sign of when it might end, folks continue to turn to Netflix in their time of need, desperate for content to keep them entertained.

While much of the entertainment world is in lockdown and in danger of drying up their respective content pipelines soon, Netflix has claimed that they have more than enough finished projects and business will continue as usual. While that may seem to be an outlandish boast, it’s hard to look at Netflix’s new releases for May 2020 and not think “man, they’re really just not stopping.”

Netflix’s new releases for May 2020 are positively loaded with new Netflix originals, intriguing recent films, and even some fun new stock TV shows. Office creator Greg Daniels latest project, Space Force, premieres on May 29 and will likely be Netflix’s big blockbuster this month. Having access to Daniels, Steve Carell, John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, and more will do that for a project.

Netflix has confirmed that 50 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in May. Also look for the sophomore season of the comedy noir “Dead to Me,” with Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

In these trying times, we can take comfort in the slew of stand-up specials, including new sets by Jerry Seinfeld, Patton Oswalt and Hannah Gadsby. On the reality side, we can’t wait to gobble up season 2 of “Restaurants on the Edge” and season 3 of “Someone Feed Phil.”

You’re probably stuck inside right now during the pandemic and pining for the days when you had a social life. Thankfully, Netflix is coming to the rescue in May with a really exciting lineup of hit movies and new shows.

It’ll be a great month for films, specifically. The incredibly popular 80s time-traveling pics Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II will be joining the already-included third entry in the franchise, while those seeking some good laughs can check out the Jim Carrey-led comedies Fun with Dick and Jane and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Meanwhile, multiple entries in the Underworld series are dropping on the service for action-horror fans, whereas kids will be happy to hear that both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory will be available right out of the gate.

With much of the world’s population currently advised to remain at home due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Netflix (and other streaming services) are more popular than ever. The company is reporting record audience numbers, which isn’t exactly surprising given that they almost literally have a captive audience, and over the last few weeks, Netflix has become so popular that in Europe they’ve had to decrease their video quality as so many people are streaming that they were in danger of slowing down the whole internet.

Hallowed Ground is a horror movie that doesn’t waste any time in pulling you in as a viewer. The opening scene itself giving you a good idea of what you might be in store for.

Written by Miles Doleac, whose previous directing and writing work included features Demons (2017), The Hollow (2016) and The Historian (2014), Hallowed Ground follows the tale of a married couple who attempt to fix their marriage after turbulent times involving cheating and drifting apart, so they take a trip to a cabin in the middle of nowhere in order to get some time together. While there, they encounter Native American owners of the cabin, and a nearby clan, who are embarking on a not-so-pleasant feud over the land.

We’ve got a trailer to share with you for a new horror thriller called Hallowed Ground, which comes from director Miles Doleac.

The film is described as being "in the tradition of The Green Inferno and Deliverance." The story follows a married couple (Lindsay Anne Williams and Sherri Eakin), “trying to rebuild their relationship after an affair, travels to a secluded cabin and stumbles into a blood feud between the Native American owners of the property and the neighboring clan, who obsessively guard their land and punish those who trespass on it in terrifying ways.”

As you’ll see in the trailer, this looks like a crazy extreme, cult-ish, and masochistic kind of film. If you’re into this kind of stuff, then maybe this will be something you’ll enjoy.

Pam Grier has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Ad Astra Award for the 16th edition of the Tallgrass Film Festival, held Oct. 17-21 in Wichita, Ks.

Tallgrass Film Festival’s program director Nick Pope said, “Pam Grier is someone that Tallgrass has sought to bring to Wichita and honor for the longest time. She is the iconic feminine face of urban cinema in the ’70s. A prime inspiration both for an entire genre’s mainstream success, a muse for multiple filmmakers, and an inspiration and trend-setter for many actors and filmmakers that followed, it will be the biggest thrill to welcome her and celebrate her career.”

A sexual assault allegation against Backtreet Boys singer Nick Carter by actress/singer Melissa Schuman is under review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The charges were presented July 31 by the Santa Monica Police Department and stem from an incident that dates to 2003. Schuman publicly revealed the incident in a November online post.

Carter, age 38, has denied the allegations. Schuman filed her police report in February, claiming the #MeToo movement empowered her to finally come forward. She wrote in November 2017 that she was “forced to engage in an act against my will” at his apartment and claimed that Carter assaulted her. They were both appearing in the film The Hollow at the time and were socializing on a day off from the shoot.

In addition to his singing career, Carter toplined reality series House of Carters which aired in 2006 on E! He’s also had guest roles on Undateable and 90210.

On Wednesday, July 18th, New Line Cinema brought a few of the upcoming horror films on their slate to the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con for the Second Annual ScareDiego celebration, giving attendees some insights to a trio of terror-filled cinematic treats, including Andy Muschietti’s It Chapter Two, Corin Hardy’s The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona from first-time feature filmmaker Michael Chaves. We also had the opportunity to hear from many of the creatives involved with The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona, both in front of, and behind, the camera.

Hosted by Rotten Tomatoes’ always entertaining Grae Drake, the night kicked off with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the happenings on the set of It Chapter Two, where Muschietti promised us that he’s ready to scare the hell out of us with his sequel, and also showed us a few sketches of potential creature designs for the film.

It was confirmed last year that the hit vampire drama is coming to an end, series creator Julie Plec took to social media early Thursday morning to warn fans that multiple "significant deaths" are on the horizon. 

"After tonight, there are five episodes of #TheOriginals left before the end of it's run," Plec dished.

"There are about as many significant deaths coming. I know you're mourning, and it's going to be hard, but there is some real beauty, love, and peace to come too. Buckle up."

When a supernatural series is coming to a close, it's generally the rule of thumb that multiple deaths will occur in the final episodes.

The opening scenes of The Hollow reminded me of the opening of Zork, one of the first text-based computer games. Back in the early 1980s, I remember eagerly buying the game and staring at the opening line, white text on the black computer screen: "You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door." I was stumped, and never did get very far. Happily, the three young, primary characters in The Hollow are far more intelligent than I have ever been. They awaken with no memory in a bunker constructed of large stones. They don't know each other and have no idea why they are trapped in the bunker, with only a manual typewriter to keep them company....
