8-year-old Selma Traskvist and her family are in danger of being evicted from their home, when Selma meets scientist Efraim von Trippelhatt who is working to build an airship and prove Santa's existence.

Selma learns that her family will be evicted from their house. Heartbroken she flees out into the winter night. She takes protection against the snow storm in a gigantic building that proves to be the Academy of Science. There Ephraim von Trippelhatt presents his latest studies. Trippelhatt has discovered that Santa Claus is not only a mythological being, but real.—Ulf Kjell Gür
