So here's the thing. If you enjoy movies like Welcome, No Entry, or Singh is Kinng you'll get a kick out of Mubarakan. Remember that if you decide to watch it. Anees Bazmee who directed all of these films brings a crazy tale of misunderstandings in a mad Punjabi family to life and it's a, surprisingly, funny ride.
Karan and Charan are twin brothers who grew up with a separate aunt and uncle in London and Punjab respectively and are as different as can be. It's all fun and games until it's time to get married
Karan is in love with Sweety. Sweety with Karan. Karan's mother hates Sweety. Charan is in love with Nafisa. Nafisa is Muslim. Charan's father doesn't approve. Karan is setup to marry Binkle. Charan meets her instead. Charan now loves Binkle. Binkle's family hates Charan. Karan gets engaged to Binkle. Charan gets engaged to Sweety. Nafisa is furious. And then there's Kartar Mamoo/Chachoo who is aware of the kids' dilemma and tries to help only causing further confusion. Did you think the movie would make sense? Of course it doesn't but don't worry because it's all part of the fun.
The first fifteen minutes or so of the film are clunky as characters and relationships are established. Push through because the real mazaa starts when Kartar begins scheming and the movie takes off. As mentioned before this is a comedy about misunderstandings and miscommunication. The humor is clean and never crude or offensive which keeps things family friendly. It's also of the situational variety and often bizarre but this is where Anees Bazmee excels. You'll laugh but also scratch your head wondering why people can't have a normal conversation. They can't. Get over it.
Arjun Kapoor does a good job especially as Karan. The body language and facial expressions are well executed. The horror of his last film (Half Girlfriend) is almost forgotten. Almost. Ileana D'Cruz brings a certain charm to Sweety and pairs nicely with Arjun. Athiya Shetty is completely wasted. Neha Sharma, credited as a guest appearance, has more to do and say than Athiya. The supporting players are well cast. Ratna Pathak Shah is a treat to watch, as usual. The real star, however, is Anil Kapoor. His comic timing brings the house down and he excels even when the plot stagnates. Mr. Kapoor's performance alone is worth the price of a ticket.
If you know what you're getting into Mubarakan is a wild and laugh-out-loud funny ride. Don't overthink it and you won't be bored. It's a little long and at least one song could've been chopped off but there are enough moments that will bring a smile to your face. Mubarak to the Kapoor chacha and bhatija, I was entertained.

Mubarakan is the kind of a movie which you go to watch with your friends when you are in the mood to simply laugh at everything.A good bollywood slapstick comedy with no double meaning jokes after a really long time. If you are the kind of a person who is in the habit of laughing at small things, you'll have a grin on your face throughout. Anil Kapoor sort of has the 'welcome' touch in his acting which is quite enjoyable. Arjun Kapoor, Ileana, Neha have all performed their parts well. However, Ratna Pathak's PUnjabi accent is a little absurd. The movie becomes slow towards the end, the first half is more enjoyable. Go to watch the movie only if you are not looking for something serious or sensible. Sometimes, it's good to just go and have a good laugh.
Just an another ordinary story that does not contain anything special. The story is not interesting and coherent. Songs are miserable and irrelevant to the story. Acting and dialogue delivery are below expectations. Screen play and plots are weak.In my opinion, this movie is just a waste of time and money.

This is an excellent movie. Bollywood doesn't make movies like this anymore...it's a must watch clean entertainer that you must take your whole family to watch! No matter how much of a bad day you have had you will come out smiling! This is a laughter pill, happiness medicine all families need. Every actor has done brilliant acting - don't listen to critics -go watch this movie, be happy and be thankful to the makers!

Anil Kapoor's youth will never cease. He was born more than 60 years ago but the man's vigor and young looks are intact. His comic timing is impeccable. He is the heart and soul of "Mubarakan". His antics form the backbone of this film. He is the reason you should watch this film. If you remove Anil S Kapoor from this film, it is extremely stupid and insipid. But because of this hairy man's relentlessly charming presence, even some of the most hilarious flaws of the film can be overlooked. This is a "No Holds Barred" comedy film and its prime selling point is Anil Kapoor. And this is one of those films that reminded me of how resplendent Punjabi people are and it also reminded me that SRK's movie is releasing next week.
Story-less film trying to make some drama happen, and horrible acting. I could sit through this movie only because of Anil Kapoor but he too, has lost his touch now. He should retire. Songs weren't good, sounded like noise.

SO, This movie is a Family Comedy Entertainer with a very old story copied from some 90's movie of Chunkey pandey. But this movie is far far better than many sex comedies which are not only spoiling the young generation but also spreading bad things about Indian Cinema. Its a neat and clean Family movie which you can enjoy any day with your entire family. As A Punjabi I like this movie a lot and no doubt I will rate this as Best Comedy movie of the year till date. Haters I have only 1 question if you know you are going for a comedy movie than why are looking for a logic just watch it and enjoy it, its not a Biopic or Drama where Logic do exists. After all its a Comedy movie, enjoy it.
Acting wise Pawan malhotra and Anil kapoor are best thing in the movie and even lead actor Arjun Kapoor and other actress are overshadowed by them. Supporting Actors like Karan Kundra, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rahul Dev and Neha Sharma are wasted here.
Go for this one I will assure you if you are don't search logic here, you will enjoy a lot.
I will rate 7/10

Anees Bazmee gave us some good entertaining comedies like Welcome, No Entry, and Singh is King. Followed by shitty attempts with Welcome Back and now this.
So the movie evolves around two twin boys named Karan and Charan Singh. Charan is based in Punjab while Karan is based in London. Karan falls in love with Sweety but apparently gets an arranged marriage with Bunkle who Charan is in love this. Due to this, a huge family rift occurs and how they win their loved ones is basically what mubarak is all about including with the hep of Uncle Kartar.
Quite frankly, this movie is stupid and relentless in such a way that the jokes are on you once you purchase the ticket for this film.
The story was slowly paced and too un-rectified in a way that multiple sardars will come at your door asking for your daughter's hand in marriage
The acting is below average.
Anil Kapoor was outstanding and he did make me laugh so many times during the film.
Arjun Kapoor as Charan was hilarious and decent but playing Karan was a bit cold and too eccentric.
Athiya Shetty was a nightmare on screen. Her expressions looked like someone forgot to turn off the washer.
Illeana D Cruz was just there and couldn't do much justice on screen
The music is average. Goggle Song is decent but Hawa Haha sounds so unmelodious that the tunes looked like a droll broke into pieces.
Overall, despite Anil Kapoor's terrific acting, this movie was ridiculously wrong. Poorly written and horribly edited which makes this film a T.V Broadcast or Netflix watch.
2.5/5- Anees Bazmee should retire from filming.

Lets get the critics out of the way. You have a family, you like comedy , go ahead and watch this. Its a cute and funny movie, Anil Kapoor is a gem and Arjun kapoor does a good job as well. Pavan Malhotra was hilarious in scenes. The Movie overall is a family watch and is extremely funny. It doesn't have much in the plot apart from the wedding confusion but then again when does bolloywood have plots regularly. Just Watch this hilarious movie.
9/10.

We know what Bollywood comedies are. Either they are based on some confusion, or based on some love story or marriage. Mubarakan is a combined package of all the Bollywood comedy formulas. Its a story of two brothers raised in different environments and their marriages. To add the much required fodder, we have Anil Kapoor who never lets us down during this 156 minutes movie that could be shorter if there weren't too many songs and monologues. In the end Mubarakan does manage to give us a good time and proves hilarious at times. A watchable and understandable comedy has come after long, so 7/10 from my side.

This is a clean family comedy movie. We have seen a lot of mindless bad comedy films but this is way better than them all. A complete entertainer and keeps you laughing throughout the movie. There are NO whatsapp jokes or PJs like TV comedy shows but a situational comedy. Direction and editing have been good. On acting front Anil Kapoor is best along with support cast of Pavan Malhotra and Ratna Pathak. But I think real winner is script, dialog and behind camera teams. Overall worth of your money.

Story: 'Mubarakan' is a story of twin brothers; Karan and Charan, one is based in London while the other is from Punjab. Karan is head over heels in love with Sweety (Ileana) and Charan has a soft corner in his heart for Nafisa (Neha Sharma). Their families are unaware of their relationship. Enter Jitto (Ratna Pathak) who sets up Charan's marriage with Binkle (Athiya), daughter of the rich Mr Sandhu (Rahul Dev). Charan seeks uncle Kartar's (Anil Kapoor) help to solve his love-problem. The rest of the film is about how the two brothers, along with their uncle Kartar solve their problems, confusion and all the madness that surrounds the family.
Review: Mubarakan is one of those films that entertains from start to finish, a 'paisa vasool' entertainer of a dysfunctional Punjabi family. It doesn't get into slapstick zone, the funny scenes haven't been forced into the screenplay to make the audience laugh. Instead, what we get is a bunch of actors who excel with their comic timing and situations that will have the audience in splits. The first half is excellent, Anees Bazmee is in top-form, as good as he was in films like 'Welcome' and 'No Entry'. Things begin to slow down in the second half and as the drama takes over from the comedy, the film gets more predictable. But 'Mubarakan' does end well.
Moving on to the performances, Mubarkan is Arjun Kapoor's best performance since his debut film 'Ishaqzaade'. He excels as Charan, the Punjabi character. What stands out is the amount of shared screen-time that both characters have. It would've been incredibly difficult for one actor to make two characters look completely different. Arjun succeeds and how. Anil Kapoor is fantastic in Mubarakan. His comic timing and expressions add tremendous value to the film. Pavan Malhotra is brilliant. Ileana D'Cruz looks stunning and acts well. Athiya Shetty has less screen time, she is okay. Neha Sharma has a small role, she does well. Ratna Pathak is excellent.
The music of the film is a mixed bag. 'Hawa Hawa' is the best song in the album and it's the only song that stays with you after the closing credits. Amar Mohile's background score is good. The cinematography and production design are top notch, something that wasn't visible in the promos of the film.
Overall, 'Mubarakan' is one of the most entertaining films of the year so far. A film that should be watched and enjoyed with the entire family. It has scenes that you recall and laugh, after the film has ended. It's films that 'Mubarakan' that most of the Hindi film audience has grown up watching and it's these kind of films that have, quite unfortunately, been missing on the silver screen. If you love clean entertainers, 'Mubarakan' is the film to watch this weekend.
Positives: Anees Bazmee's direction Clean family entertainer Excellent first half Performances by Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and the rest of the supporting cast.
Negatives: Second half weaker as compared to first.

Not offensively bad but highly mediocre. Disappointing because these actors could have made a way better script work.
Zero character development, zero empathy for characters, zero emotions.

Though a lot many intellectual will unnecessarily put their point of view that this is mediocre and average movie. But this Anees Bazmi movie has great comedy and few situational comedy.
This is not great but sometimes you need this easy movie to have full on time pass. This is no brainer that this is bit illogical and have some basic issues of application of mind b it yes it has heart at right place.
Have Fun with this Arjun Kapoor movie. Anil Kapoor and Illeana are also very good.

Worst movie ever! It actually has no story pattern or any funny comedy punches.
It's just full of unnecessary punjabi music at anywhere of the movie.
Waste of time!

The movie was not that great. It was fine . Story of the movie made no sense. Good jokes. The only reason movie was good was because of amazing acing by Anil Kapoor. The name of the movie is very different from the story hence making the title irrelevant. the movie has also shown some waste scenes such as fighting among the family members apart from these things the movie was good especially the acting by Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor...

Now let me start off by saying that I only watched this due to my brother in law saying it was a really funny film and he kept wanting to rewatch it for the last 6 months, so we all sat down to watch it. I can safely say this was one of my worst ever film viewing decisions, if anything I feel like I should fine my brother in law to reimburse me for my time, and hes no longer allowed to recommend me films. This film starts off with the classic Bollywood trope of 2 twin brothers being separated at birth due to their parents death and being bought up in different countries. The whole story revolves around love marriages and a potential arranged marriage which you can at least expect some comedy from. Now the main actor Arjun Kapoor whilst clearly having some charisma seems to think that playing his character from England like a donut was a good idea, whilst his twin is meant to be some dopey idiot but has a beautiful girl fall in love with him at first sight when hes not even a good looking bloke. All throughout this film the only thing you want to do is punch both Arjun Kapoors. This film is clearly not funny at all and I can't even remember laughing once, heck if other people weren't watching with me I'd have turned it off after 20 minutes. The only reason it has one star is cause of Anil Kapoor who is believable as his character and seems to know what type of film he is in. So in summary this film is really bad and if you are trying to choose between this and any other film watch the other film. Also only has one decent song in it. ps I watched this film about 3 months ago and was still so upset that I decided to write my first ever review on here.

I saw this movie in the second week when rating on IMDb was already 5.3 and critics too had given it a lukewarm response. I tried using the ratings and reviews as an excuse to not watch the movie but saw it because my brother was really keen.
I came out pleasantly surprised after thoroughly enjoying the 2.5 odd hours of the movie. Sure, it drags at a couple of points during drama moments, but the movie offers plenty of laughs, and that is what my entire expectation from a comedy is.
There are some loose ends in the plot but to not allow a comedy movie some leeway is anyway an incorrect expectation.
Maximum screen time is divided between Anil and Arjun Kapoor who both do a very good job. The actresses don't offer much but that's also because the characters didn't need to have any depth and neither were they carrying the burden of pulling off the jokes.
I could have lived without a couple of songs but that's it, other than that I'm stumped as to why it's been reviewed poorly here. It's got a 7.6 on Bookmyshow which is closer to what I believe is the real merit of the movie

#Mubarakan is another big-budget hindi movie, meant to appease the Punjabi-speaking audience. This film could have been made in Punjabi itself. There is a lot of confusion n madness throughout the film, leading to many complicated n silly situations. Pavan n Ratna, as brother n sister, r excellent. Anil n Arjun Kapoor (in a double role) r good. The heroines don't have much to do n they do that well. The second half needs to get trimmed by 20 minutes at least. The music is forgettable. Rating 1.5/5.
Brainless but entertaining typical Punjabi comedy. It is a onetime watch. I find here many reviews who expect logic or direction in this film. I think acting of anil kapoor was awsum. Like in Indian comedy movies a confusion chaos is created and that creates humor, so here also same.
A Sikh uncle tries to get his twin nephews married to their sweethearts against all the odds and last minute confusions. Perhaps it sounds much like a plot burrowed from "Houseful" series. But believe me, it has its own style and leaves the crudeness of "Houseful" franchise and is built as a clean family entertainer. Well, it's not a work of originality or of a tremendous caliber; but it's still good in its way and grips till the end though the beginning seems a bit loose and gets a bit dragging in its second half. The real life uncle and nephew plays the same in the movie with Arjun Kapoor a bit adequate in his roles but Anil Kapoor steals the show. Go for it with less expectation, you won't be dissappointed.

Ratna Pathak Shah, Anil Kapoor and Pawan Malhotra saves this movie. The movie has reasonably a good but a very familiar plot and Bazmi has handled it skillfully. However, casting of a few artists has backfired. Mrs. Mana & Shri Sunil Shetty must think of something else for their daughter Athiya. Arjun Kapoor is the most overrated actor of this generation. He is around just because he is Boney Kapoor's son and Anil Kapoor's nephew. We must acknowledge that Anil Kapoor is the first and the last credible actor of Late Shri Surinder Kapoor family.
