The producer of hit Netflix original series “3%,” Sao Paulo’s Boutique Filmes, is teaming with Warner Channel Brasil to produce half-hour “Mal Me Quer” (Love Me Not), Warner Bros.’ first comedy original in Brazil.
Co-produced and to be aired by Warner Channel Brasil, “Love Me Not” went into production Aug. 14 in Brazil. “3%” producer Tiago Mello will executive produce for Boutique Filmes.
Success in such a large TV market as Brazil is vital for any domestic TV series. But as Brazilian series score on Netflix, and win prizes at Cannes, such as a Mip Drama Screening’s Grand Jury Prize for Globo’s “Jailers,” the ambitions of Boutique Filmes and Warner Channel, who co-own overseas rights, run beyond the domestic TV scene. Boutiques Filmes’ Tiago Mello, “3%” producer and executive producer on “Love Me Not” will attend Mipcom to explore format remakes.

Five projects by filmmakers from Greece and the Balkans will be unveiled May 14 at Thessaloniki Goes to Cannes, the Cannes Film Market’s pix-in-post industry showcase supported by the Thessaloniki Intl. Film Festival.
The selection includes both emerging talents and established directors, giving a “fresh look” at the region’s filmmakers, according to Yianna Sarri, head of Agora, the Thessaloniki festival’s market.
“Greek cinema is blooming these last years,” she says, with the Cannes showcase offering “the best way to show film professionals from all over the world [the films] that will hit festivals and cinemas next year.”
Acclaimed Greek director Giorgos Panousopoulos returns after a 14-year hiatus with “In This Land Nobody Knew How to Cry,” an off-beat comedy about a French politician, a young economist, an Italian architect-turned-teacher and a Greek widow who meet by chance on the Aegean island of Armenaki, which has the magical ability to change people’s lives.

Jim Carrey takes on an incredibly serious role in his latest film project Dark Crimes. The movie is a murder mystery crime thriller, in which Carrey plays a police officer who is hunting down a killer in the dark underworld of sex crimes.
We've seen Carrey make serious films before, but this one definitely looks like it could be his darkest yet. The story follows a police officer named Tadek, "who finds similarities between an unsolved murder and a crime outlined in a book by famed writer Krystov Kozlow (Martin Csokas). As Tadek begins to track Kozlow and his girlfriend, a mysterious sex club worker (Charlotte Gainsbourg), his obsession grows and he descends into an underworld of sex, lies, and corruption to find the shocking truth."
The movie is based on a true story that was told in a 2008 New Yorker article titled, "True Crimes – A postmodern murder mystery", by David Grann.
