This is a slightly self-indulgent film in many ways, and one that probably as many people will dislike as like. I sat in the middle, occasionally going to one end of the spectrum, then to the other. The disjointed narrative is hard to describe as it drifts from being in a film, to being seemingly outside of a film, to being a film of a film – all with the characters making that transition as seamlessly as the film itself. Essentially it operates scene to scene, without a real narrative through-line. What works though is that the characters are engaging and the tone/pace are both well set and controlled.
If you get into the rhythm of it all, the film is actually quite pleasing in the way it meanders across the screen with its intriguingly relaxed dialogue and characters. I won't say I'd rush back to repeat viewings, but it was quite an enjoyable short.
