Before kids got into Stephen King, Scholastic Book Fairs introduced them to the tween horror maestro: R.L. Stine. The author's best known for his "Goosebumps" books, an anthology series where each book introduced a new horror for some intrepid young protagonist to confront. Werewolves, mud monsters, and Slappy the dummy, the last of whom Stine never understood the fanbase for, all gave us nightmares. But hey, at least we were reading!
"Goosebumps" is far from Stine's only enterprise, as he's also the visionary behind the "Fear Street" and "Mostly Ghostly" books, too. It should come as no surprise that many of his works have been adapted into films and TV shows over the years. Some you've undoubtedly heard of before while others will make you go, "Wait, that's an R.L. Stine project?"
Consider it homework to expand your Stine repertoire, and in case you don't have the time to watch all of them,...

As Netflix’s library of films ebbs and flows, finding the right movie to watch can feel like bailing out an ocean with a spoon. And if you’re looking for a quality horror movie in particular, the search only gets harder. With the reality that Horror is one of the cheapest genres to produce, streamers like Netflix are cluttered with a veritable tsunami of bloody titles that sometimes seem indistinguishable from one another. Curating the 25 scariest movies on Netflix is then quite a process of selection and reduction.
If you’re looking for a good horror movie to watch on Netflix that will truly scare you, picking a final selection can prove a more daunting task than sitting through yet another “Haunting of Hill House” rewatch; with or without its beloved “Bly Manor” chaser. But while the streamer’s priorities seem to shift as quickly as its content selection grows,...

Sadie Sink is now a front-runner to play Jean Grey in an X-Men reboot movie in the MCU. Marvel first teased an X-Men reboot following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. More updates came recently as X-Men characters began appearing in several MCU films. While some fans are excited about the actress in the role, others harbor concerns regarding her age.

Many of you will no doubt recall the near-endless list of actors we saw suggested for Marvel's First Family in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. An official announcement was finally made but the rumours...well, they became a little exhausting.
Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is finally somewhere on the horizon and could be released in theaters as soon as 2027. It's incredibly important to get that franchise right after the damage done by Fox in those final few years and casting the best people possible will be essential.
We fully trust in Sarah Finn, of course, and expect to be suitably impressed. In the meantime, quite a few names are already doing the rounds online and we figured it would be a good time to bring you up to speed with everyone rumoured to be in the running.

Get ready to take another walk down Fear Street. The hit trilogy of horror films started and concluded in 2021, with all three installments landing at Netflix on consecutive weeks. Now Fear Street: Prom Queen will bring us back to the dark heart of Shadyside. You can check out a very ’80s sneak peek at the set below.
The first three Fear Street films traveled further and further back into the bloody history of the aptly named town. At the end of Part Three, evil seemed vanquished for good — until a post-credits scene showed an unknown figure stealing a sinister tome. Evil never really dies in Shadyside.
“We're back in Shadyside and the year is 1988,” director and co-writer Matt Palmer tells Tudum. “With Senior Prom just two days away the race for prom queen is already heating up, but when somebody starts slaughtering the prom queen candidates, all...

Shadyside's curse may have been broken in Fear Street Part 3: 1666, but there is even more terror on the horizon in Fear Street: Prom Queen. Following the wildly successful Fear Street trilogy on Netflix, the project was originally pitched as the start of a greater anthology franchise, and there are plenty of R.L. Stine books to draw from. Directed by Leigh Janiak, Fear Street's story is told over three movies that take place in 1994, 1978 and 1666, respectively, and pays homage to horror classics like Scream and Friday the 13th.
Set in the small town of Shadyside, the trilogy follows a group of teens as they try to survive a witch's curse that periodically causes a Shadysider to become possessed and go on a brutal killing spree. Their investigation takes them all the way back to the source of the curse in 1666, when a local witch named Sarah Fier was hanged...

Netflix is heading back to Shadyside with Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest addition to the Fear Street movie franchise based on R.L. Stine’s beloved teen horror novels. This new installment, directed by Matthew Palmer (Calibre), continues the legacy of the 2021 trilogy, and has been officially rated R by the MPA. The rating is due to “strong bloody violence and gore, teen drug use, language, and some sexual references.”
Set in 1988, Fear Street: Prom Queen revisits Shadyside, where prom season at Shadyside High takes a dark turn. The movie introduces a fresh storyline inspired by R.L. Stine’s 1992 book The Prom Queen. In the story, a group of girls campaigning for prom queen begins to mysteriously disappear after a gutsy outsider is nominated.
The students of Shadyside High quickly realize this is no ordinary prom night—it’s a fight for survival.

Fear Street: Prom Queen now has an official age rating, and it continues a trend for the Netflix horror movies. Based on the book by author R. L. Stine, the fourth installment in the Fear Street franchise takes place in 1988, chronicling a Prom Queen competition at Shadyside High School in which participants begin to disappear after the emergence of an unusual nominee. Though no Fear Street: Prom Queen trailer has been released just yet, the movie, which hails from director Matt Palmer, is confirmed to release on the streaming service at some point in 2025.

Fear Street: Prom Queen, the continuation of the Fear Street film franchise that began with the release of the trilogy of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 on the Netflix streaming service back in the summer of 2021, made its way through production last year, and while Netflix hasn’t announced a specific release date for the film yet, it has just taken one big step toward release: it has gotten its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Fear Street: Prom Queen has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, teen drug use, language and some sexual references.

Netflix is headed back to Shadyside with Fear Street: Prom Queen later this year, the next installment in their growing Fear Street Cinematic Universe. The movies are of course based on R.L. Stine’s classic teen horror novels, and Stine recently let us know that Prom Queen isn’t the only new Fear Street movie in the works. According to Stine, three more are on the way!
But first up is Fear Street: Prom Queen, which doesn’t yet have a trailer or premiere date. The film has been officially rated by the MPA this week, however, landing a hard “R” rating.
Fear Street: Prom Queen is rated “R” for…
“Strong bloody violence and gore, teen drug use, language and some sexual references.”
With the rating turned in, a trailer is likely coming soon. Stay tuned.

Plot: Begins with fraternal twins Devin and Cece adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.
Review: Growing up, I was slightly too old to enjoy Goosebumps. While I was graduating from Christopher Pike novels and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series to the more mature novels of Stephen King, tons of kids entered the gateway horror of Stine’s fun brand of scary stories to tell in the dark. The anthology series was a hit with kids looking for a good scare, and the big-screen films starring Jack Black amped up the comedy for a big-budget adventure. Disney+ and Hulu’s reboot of the franchise was a successful, scary take on the source material back in 2023, and this year’s sophomore entry is equally good.

R.L. Stine, the author of the beloved “Goosebumps” series, praised the new installment, “Goosebumps: The Vanishing,” as being really scary and predicted that “people are going to love it.”
The series, which premiered Friday on Disney+ and Hulu, stars David Schwimmer as botanist Anthony Brewer, whose kids Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece (Jayden Bartels) come to visit for the summer. When Devin delves into the mystery of how his uncle vanished in the ’90s, new dangers — including some particularly nasty and grabby vines — stalk them all.
The 81-year-old author talked to TheWrap about why people love horror so much and joked that he’s going to be writing the book series 30 years from now, when he’s 112, since he just signed on to pen six more.

Disney's 2023 adaptation of the iconic R.L. Stine book series gave '90s kids a blast from the past as well as a true-to-form horror reboot. While season one was undeniably a grown-up Goosebumps experience that made all the right moves, can the sequel stand on similar legs?
Right from the first few minutes of the pilot episode of season 2, viewers are treated to familiar trappings seen in 2023, as well as a familiar flavor seen with Netflix's Fear Street movies. That's not necessarily a bad thing, especially in an anthology series, but does Goosebumps rely on repetition, or have we just read these stories before?
A second scare?
A group of parents with a supernatural secret wreaking havoc on their children decades later is an arc we saw last season, but Disney/Hulu up the ante in this latest installment with a fusion of demonic possession and sci-fi horror tropes worthy of an Alien film.

‘Fear Street’ is a horror film series based on R.L. Stine’s books, blending slasher and supernatural elements. The story follows teens working to break a centuries-old curse on their town.
The first three films, directed by Leigh Janiak, were released on Netflix in July 2021 to great reviews. A fourth film, ‘Fear Street: Prom Queen,’ directed by Matt Palmer, is set to debut in 2025.
If the author is to be believed, ‘Prom Queen’ won’t be the end of the franchise as according to Stine, three more movies are on the way.
R.L. Stine confirmed that writers are working on three new ‘Fear Street’ movies, but he didn’t share any details about whether they’ll connect to Leigh Janiak’s trilogy or the upcoming ‘Fear Street: Prom Queen.’

Netflix is getting ready to welcome viewers back to Shadyside this year with brand new movie Fear Street: Prom Queen, but Fear Street series author R.L. Stine has revealed to THR that planning is underway on three more Fear Street movies.
“The writers are working,” Stine told the outlet. “So I’ve got my fingers crossed.”
Considering there are over 50 novels included in the original Fear Street series, there are a lot of stories to mine for feature adaptations. The author didn’t divulge any additional details, either, including whether the three new movies will be tied to Leigh Janiak’s trilogy or the upcoming Prom Queen, though it seems likely. We do know that Fear Street: Prom Queen will be nestled between the events of Fear Street: 1994 and Fear Street: 1978. Matt Palmer (Calibre) is directing the franchise’s upcoming fourth installment.

In the same The Hollywood Reporter interview where he revealed that Netflix is developing three more Fear Street movies, author R.L. Stine also spent some time hyping up another streaming adaptation of his work: Goosebumps: The Vanishing. The second season of the new Goosebumps TV series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing is set to make its premiere on January 10th on Disney+ and Hulu – and Stine described this as an “elevated” Goosebumps that’s more terrifying than the source material.
The first season of Goosebumps centered on a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past. The show is taking the anthology route, so we can expect a second season that has “an entirely new cast and setting based on Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.

Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While we won’t be getting another trilogy event this year, we do know that a new addition to the franchise, Fear Street: Prom Queen, will be reaching Netflix sometime in 2025 – and Stine has told The Hollywood Reporter that there actually are three new Fear Street movies in the works!

Following the success of the original trilogy of movies, R.L. Stine says the Fear Street franchise's future is looking bright. Based on Stine's young adult horror series of the same name, the original trilogy of movies centered on a group of teens in the small town of Shadyside who inadvertently become the target of a curse that has plagued the city for centuries, with each movie being set in a different era. Originally set at Fox before Disney's acquisition of them, the Fear Street trilogy earned widespread acclaim after jumping to Netflix, with a fourth movie entering development in late 2023.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the upcoming release of Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the second season of the Disney+ show based on his other iconic horror book franchise, Stine was asked about the Fear Street movie series. More murder and mayhem is coming to Shadyside with three more Fear Street films in development.
That’s according to the master of middle-grade horror, R.L. Stine, who revealed just how many more adaptations of his popular young adult horror novel series are currently in the works while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Disney+ Goosebumps: The Vanishing premiere, coming Jan. 10.
“The writers are working,” Stine shared. “So I’ve got my fingers crossed.”
The three films will follow Netflix’s successful 2021, Leigh Janiak-directed trilogy, as well as the upcoming fourth film, The Prom Queen, which has finished filming and is slated for sometime in 2025. (The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Netflix for more details.)

I'm even more hopeful about the upcoming X-Men reboot following recent reports of Jean Grey's casting in the MCU. As a member of the original X-Men team in Marvel Comics and one of the most-adapted and beloved mutants in the Marvel Universe, it makes sense to me that Jean Grey would be an essential character to debut in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men movie. The powerful telepath has previously been portrayed in live-action by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, and her possible MCU casting may now have been revealed.

At one time, Watcher director Chloe Okuno was attached to direct the fourth entry in Netflix’s R.L. Stine-inspired Fear Street franchise – but while Fear Street: Prom Queen has made its way through production without her involvement (the movie ended up being directed by Matthew Palmer), Okuno has been busy getting another genre project set up. One that will reunite her with Watcher star Maika Monroe. We heard back in October that Okuno’s new project is called Brides and it’s aiming to start filming in the Spring of 2025.Now, Deadline has broken the news that Neon has acquired the North American distribution rights to Brides.
Scripted by Okuno, Brides draws inspiration from Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Set in 1960s Italy, it will show us what happens when Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband travel to a remote villa in the wake of Sally’s nervous breakdown.

Gladiator II, the long-awaited sequel (that literally nobody was asking for) to Ridley Scott’s 2000 masterpiece, arrives burdened with high expectations and lofty aspirations. Unfortunately, while it recreates most of the original movie beat for beat and delivers some moments of grandeur, the film largely falls short of recapturing the spirit of the original, leaving this humble reviewer wondering if some classics are best left untouched especially if it wasn’t broken in the first place.
Gladiator was one of the first DVDs I ever owned and I still remember the way Ridley, Crowe and Phoenix made me feel while watching it. Gladiator II made me wish we could see that long-banded-about Tom Waits version. Going a different road for this review, I...

The genre of horror films has been around for a very long time. Despite shocking and frightening audiences, this genre is very popular, and some filmmakers have made a living by creating horror films, especially after Alfred Hitchcock took the genre to new heights.
Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and George Romero are regarded as classics, but there are also a number of up-and-coming filmmakers who want to make a career in the genre.

As Bloody Disgusting reports, Companion has been pushed back from its initial January 10 release date, but it is still going to air in the same month, so everyone who’s expecting to see this movie won’t have to wait much...

Brendan Fraser stars in the psychological drama The Whale alongside a talented supporting The Whale cast. Based on Samuel D. The resulting movie received critical acclaim following its world debut at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2022 and has been credited with helping to return Fraser to prominence as a Hollywood star. In addition, The Whale has been nominated for three Academy Awards.
Set mostly on a couch in a single apartment in the college town of Moscow, Idaho, The Whale centers around the life of a morbidly obese English professor (Fraser) who seeks to reconnect with his estranged daughter (played by Fear Street and Stranger Things' Sadie Sink). Here is a guide to the entire main and supporting The Whale cast, who they play,...
