The best Cynthia Erivo movies and TV shows feature a strong mix of releases that take advantage of her singing and acting talents. Erivo got her start as a singer and she worked in theater before she ever took on roles in movies and TV shows. It was her early role as Celie Harris in The Color Purple that earned her first major attention, and it even led to her Broadway debut when she took the role to the revival in 2015.
This led to her film debut in 2016 when she signed on for the neo-noir thriller Bad Times at the El Royale as part of that film’s ensemble cast. This led to even bigger things, such as the Steve McQueen-directed film Widows, and then enjoyed her breakout in the historical drama Harriet, where she played abolitionist Harriet Tubman. At the age of 37, Cynthia Erivo has already had a richly varied career, winning a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy and channeling Harriet Tubman in “Harriet” and Aretha Franklin in “Genius: Aretha.”
So why does it seem as if she might have been born to play the iconic Wicked Witch of the West in “Wicked,” Jon M. Chu’s musical movie adaptation of author Gregory Maguire’s 1995 “Wizard of Oz” prequel novel and its 2003 Broadway musical?
As Elphaba, the name the witch had before she became known simply as wicked, Erivo uses the film to take a dramatic turn that has landed her both at the top of the box-office charts and in the awards picture. Beyond her renditions of Stephen Schwartz’s beloved “Defying Gravity,” “The Wizard and I,” “I’m Not That Girl” and other numbers, she illuminates a richly textured emotional landscape within the west-bound witch everyone thinks they know.

Few cinematic characters have left as big of an impression as Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic “Alien” survivor, who led four films in the franchise and left behind some massive shoes to fill for everyone who’s come since. In “Alien: Romulus,” that’s a young cast of franchise newcomers, led by “Priscilla” and “Civil War” star Cailee Spaeny.

The Alien: Romulus cast includes actors who've been headlining recent blockbusters to fresh faces who could become tomorrow's biggest stars. Set chronologically between the events of Alien and Aliens, the film follows a group of six young adults as they try to scavenge supplies for a lengthy cosmic trip from a derelict space station. However, they're unaware the station is abandoned and in ruins because of the creatures trapped aboard, and they're more than eager to lash out at any visitors.
One of the often overlooked strengths of Alien was the way the film bucked traditional sci-fi castings and instead focused on a diverse collection of actors that brought a grounded humanity to their performances. This is something Alien: Romulus looked to replicate, keeping much of the film's focus centered solely on the central cast of six young adults trying to make their way across the cosmos to a brighter future.

In Wizard Of Oz spin-off Wicked, Cynthia Erivo plays ostracised outcast Elphaba. Being off-kilter, though, says the actor, has always been a badge of honour
There was no yellow brick road laid out for Cynthia Erivo to follow.
Instead, the British-Nigerian has found her own way, from a show-stealing solo in her south London primary’s nativity play (‘Silent Night’; not a dry eye in the house), to a multi-hyphenate, multi-award-winning career, spanning stage, screen and latterly, the recording studio. This month, 37-year-old Erivo stars as Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West, alongside Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, in the big-screen adaptation of Wicked, the Wizard Of Oz spin-off and hit Broadway musical. It’s a role she feels she’s “innately understood” even before being offered it, from experiencing the musical, and there have been plenty more sing-along adventures en route to this dream-come-true.

The first three Matrix films changed action movies forever and made characters like Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus pop culture icons. However, the fourth Matrix film was not as well received as the first three entries in the franchise. Therefore, The Matrix 5 needs to recapture the magic of the original. While not much is known about the upcoming fifth Matrix movie, Drew Goddard, who has previously written and directed films such as The Cabin in the Woods and Bad Times at the El Royale, will write and direct the film.
After the disappointing The Matrix Resurrections, the fifth Matrix film must successfully bring back the most important part of the series. While most would assume that the inclusion of Keanu Reeves' Neo is essential to the success of The Matrix 5, that is not the case. In actuality, The Matrix 5 simply needs to recapture the magic of the original three films by including outstanding action scenes.

Disney is continuing to explore its classic characters with new live-action takes on its animated films, as this has been a lucrative business for the studio for some time. We recently learned that Paul King ("Paddington") is now set to direct a "Prince Charming" movie for the Mouse House which, on the surface, seems like a purely money-driven idea. Erivo previously received two Oscar nominations for the film “Harriet,” based on the life of Harriet Tubman. She got one nod for best actress and another for best original song alongside Joshuah Brian Campbell. Her other credits include “The Outsider,” “Bad Times at the El Royale,” and “Widows.”
She is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360, The Lede Company and Peikoff Mahan.

The animated movie, Transformers One, boasts a high-profile cast and includes a number of MCU stars. Set on the planet of Cybertron instead of Earth, Transformers One aims to explore the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron. The story of Transformers One will mainly cover the early years of Autobots and Decepticons on their home planet and how their respective leaders turned from allies to enemies. With an origin story reminiscent of Netflixs War For Cybertron trilogy and with no human characters involved in this animated adventure, Transformers One aims to be a unique Transformers movie.
Helmed by Toy Story 4 writer Josh Cooley, Transformers One offers a lot of promise - especially the cast list. Although none of the cast members from the original Generation-1 animated series and the live-action Transformers movies return, the voice cast still includes a talented bunch of actors (including some MCU stars and Academy Award...

If you like your films to keep you on the edge of your seat then this film from actor-turned-director Philip Barantini - expanded from his short of the same name - should hit the spot. Stephen Graham is a chef about to embark on a tough night in the kitchen that starts with a stressful conversation with his estranged wife and a visit from a hygiene inspector and just keeps getting worse. Shot in a single take, the technique is much more than a gimmick, adding enormously to the tension as we watch events unfold in the kitchen and at the tables. You're likely to find yourself admiring the choreography more than more after the event - once you've got your breath back.

With Alien: Romulus, Cailee Spaeny finds herself up against an iconic menagerie of monsters. As she tells us, though, she's always been drawn to the dark.
Cailee Spaeny came out of nowhere, and suddenly she is everywhere.
Maybe she broke your heart in HBO’s Mare Of Easttown as the teenage mother lured into the woods to die. She was in Alex Garland’s philosophical sci-fi series Devs as tech genius Lyndon, and starred in Garland’s intense gut-punch of a film, Civil War. Most likely you will know her as the lead in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination: she was the actor brave enough to take on a role that would not only be heavily scrutinised, but would also require her to apply cat-eyeliner, in one take, without a mirror. Lewis Pullman was about halfway through shooting the second episode of the Apple TV+ limited series “Lessons in Chemistry” when he got some unexpected news: Showrunner Lee Eisenberg and the rest of the production team were so impressed with his performance as Calvin Evans, the brilliant, socially awkward chemist who falls in love with Brie Larson’s equally brilliant and socially awkward chemist Elizabeth Zott, that they decided to write more episodes for him.
Originally, Calvin’s story arc was supposed to end after tragedy strikes him down in Episode 2, but now, he’d be making intermittent return appearances and getting his own stand-alone episode explaining his character’s backstory.
“It was such an honor,” Pullman, 31, said during a recent Zoom interview. “It was such a good working experience. I didn’t come home feeling like I was dragging any sort of demons with me. It was a very warm...

[This story contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte.]
Manny Jacinto’s scene-stealing role as the Stranger on Star Wars: The Acolyte is a revelation for plenty of viewers, but for several weeks now, fans of Michael Schur’s The Good Place have been proudly reiterating, “That’s the guy we’ve been telling you about.”
If you’re someone who hasn’t kept up with the high points of network television, then perhaps you recognize Jacinto from his small parts in Top Gun: Maverick (2022) or Bad Times at the El Royale (2018). In the case of the latter, Jacinto’s future Top Gun co-star Lewis Pullman was the one who delivered a violent end to his henchman character, and not long after in terms of production schedules, his own Top Gun pilot character would be on the receiving end of Jay Ellis’ character’s memorably intimidated line, “Shit, that’s Fritz.”

Chris Hemsworth has been an A-list leading man in the industry for quite some years. The actor worked hard to make a name in the industry and came from a humble background. He became a household name as Thor in the MCU, catapulting his career to new heights. Despite his movie star status, Hemsworth remains humble and down-to-earth as seen in many of his interviews.

When the original Knives Out movie was released by Lionsgate in 2019, the whodunnit starring Daniel Craig as the southern P.E. Benoit Blanc, was either doomed to fail or become a smashing success. The latter happened, as the ensemble cast full of big names made Knives Out one of the best films of the year, ending up with numerous accolades and nominations, with many going so far as to claim that it had revived the whodunnit genre. The sequel, Glass Onion, was also well-received, but more because of its political and social messages than for the plot, which was more or less feeble and unworthy of the original. But, what is important is that Glass Onion also featured an ensemble cast, and it seems that the upcoming third movie, Wake Up Dead Man, will also follow in these footsteps.

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

When it comes to epic new character challenges for Chris Hemsworth, the question isn’t “Can he do it?” The question is “Does he have it in him… to make it epic?”
From “The Avengers” and “Blackhat” to more Avengers and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” Hemsworth has been chewing through action roles since he was first cast as Captain Kirk’s dad in the 2009 “Star Trek” reboot that launched a thousand IMDb pages. He’s known across the world and throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor: an ancient god dedicated to protecting Earth and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” IP with a heart of gold and a hammer the size of Rocket Raccoon. Sometimes he’s brave. Sometimes he’s goofy. And shaggy or shaven, the man sure can make a cape and eyepatch sexy.

Chris Hemsworth's post-mcu roles have struggled to match his success as Thor. The upcoming Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover may finally be Hemsworth's next big franchise. The Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie has been teased for years and boasts a passionate built-in fanbase.
One of Hollywood's biggest stars, Chris Hemsworth skyrocketed to fame for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. Hemsworth's portrayal of the god of thunder cemented him not only as a massive action star, but as a comedic force to be reckoned with. While the actor has hopped between genres and franchises, landing roles in everything from Ghostbusters (2016) to Men in Black: International, Hemsworth hasn't been able to find a suitable MCU replacement role. For example, Men in Black had the potential to relaunch the beloved series, but it bombed at the box office.

When George Miller released "Mad Max: Fury Road" in 2015 (our review here), he completely revolutionized action films forever. The long-awaited fourth installment of his post-apocalyptic Ozploitation franchise, "Fury Road" was over three decades in the making, but before Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron ever pressed their boot leather to the gas pedal of a war rig — there was Miller's script for "Furiosa." Almost entirely written before production began on "Fury Road," Miller outlined a thrilling epic about the life of Imperator Furiosa before she crossed paths with "Mad" Max Rockatansky.
Now, Miller has brought that story to the big screen, a prequel to "Fury Road" and an immersive dive into the life story of one of cinema's greatest characters of the last 20 years. Thanks to the extensive behind-the-scenes oral history of "Fury Road," we know that Miller is a meticulous director who storyboards out his films within an inch of their life.

There's a case to be made that Chris Hemsworth is the most talented of the Marvel Studios Chrises. He's got great comedic energy and leaned into that with his later performances as Thor (even if he admittedly went overboard in "Thor: Love and Thunder"). His vengeance-driven God of Thunder is the highlight of "Infinity War" too.
He's also making interesting career choices. I'm a Captain America fan, but Chris Evans has not challenged himself as an actor since "Snowpiercer." ("Knives Out" was just him dusting off his pre-Cap screen persona of a cocky a-hole.) Chris Pratt has waltzed his way into being Hollywood's leading voice actor despite his anonymous performances in "The Super Mario Brothers" and soon, "The Garfield Movie." Hemsworth takes paycheck gigs (see: "Extraction" and his voice acting turn as young Optimus Prime in "Transformers: One" this coming Summer), but he shows ambition too. In 2017, during Marvel's cultural dominance,...

Jeff Bridges' return to the big screen in Tron: Ares ends his 7-year movie hiatus, marking his first feature film since 2018. A major cast update in Tron: Ares is even more exciting considering the actor's current hiatus.
