Of emotional power, spectacular effect and without making use of higher effects, the version one of the great song "Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush is of a beautiful quality, everlasting effect and doesn't need to mark its idea on viewers, fans or not.
Godley & Creme's clip is a one-take video where Gabriel and Kate are embracing each other over this background with a sun and a moon that keeps changing positions whenever they're singing. Gabriel's face to the camera when he's singing; then Kate's face when she's singing while his back is in front of us. Lyrics dealing about struggle, challenges, hard things one feels he won't overcome while Kate's part urges the first voice to not give up on whatever he's facing and she tells about reasons of why the narrator musn't give up. It's one of the most interesting duets ever to exist; quite unusual but lovely to hear and Peter Gabriel on the wave of his smash-hit album "So" (a track from the album too), used this power ballad to present one of the loveliest clips ever made.
While the amazingly positive lyrics echo through our ears, we pay attention to a visual that is simple as the sky but can transpose a similar effect when we admire the nature's beauty and notice every little thing about it. Gabriel and Bush's embrace, a slow dance used to highlight their faces whenever one of them is singing - because they never do at the same time - is a world of emotions. They're embracing each other, and you can notice different hands move, tenderness, expressions, reactions, it's truly true friends helping each other with one small unstoppable gesture that brings comfort, relief, love and other possible positive emotions. This clip makes you pay attention to those details while the song can reach out for you in a dark period and calm your mood for a while. "Don't Give Up" has that kind of electric energy. It goes through you and never leaves.
