Although it doesn't carry the same, clout, or impact, then the original, 22 years, prefore, this is still an entertaining ride, as seen in it's brilliant portrayal by one of Oz's great actors, reprising his role, as the infamous killer cop, never letting his guard down, and being even better, second time around. Now now longer with the NSW police department, never changing corrupt cop, Roger Rogerson, is the objective of one cop's obsession to bring down. He too, a solid straight arrow (Nable, solid too in his performance) has his own vices. He heads an undercover team to bring down Rogerson, through his friends, and that he does. This two part series, traces Rogerson, from the mid 80's, through his small 92-95 prison stint (two more followed later) right through to the involvement, and execution of the university student Jamie Gao, back in 2014, where I thought they would of spent more time on this part, which came as short sheeted, bitter disappointment. Apart from that, the series quite extensively covers Rogerson's wherabouts and dealings, where we see a more human and good side of Roger, like we've got to know the infamous cop, deeper, but the truth be known, he was a bad man. He also found a new love too (the great Collette), and I really liked seeing the softer side of him. Performances, big or small, deliver the goods, Roxburgh, even mastering the hobble, at Rogerson's much older years, towards his last arrest. I'll be honest, and say this does not carry, nowhere the same impact or frightening energy as the original. If still watched today, you'll find age, pretty much, hasn't tainted it at all. Roxburgh, Nable, and Booth as a sexy uncover cop, were the performances that stood out for me. If a fan of the first, this is still a recommended watch. Just don't expect it, to match the same greatness of the original. You won't find it here. Great writing, especially in the soliquay's Rogerson delivers, at start and finish.
