If it wasn't for Danny DeVito I'd probably wouldn't be near the video since I'm not much of a Directioner (I like the guys and their charismatic presence, quality stuff but the music is far from my style...and gotta admit, the appeal was great enough to make Christopher Nolan cast Harry Styles in "Dunkirk"). However, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall picture I've got here. Not only the clip is amusing but the song is quite catchy.
DeVito plays a clip director who wants to shoot a video in the desert with the then five One Direction members playing special forces (Love, Light, Mystery, Danger and Power), and there's even some funny bits with Danny spitting an apple while he speaks. Niall, Zayn, Harry, Liam and Louis interact between themselves and dancers, sumo wrestlers (poor Zayn haha), animals and colorful events while the most memorable part of the lyrics echoes about people wanting to "steal my girl". I know, I know...
There's magic in it. Of course, unlike videos from previous decades which are part of my music/film culture but it can't be denied the quality about it, even for a pop video. It isn't messy and filled with cuts all the time; it truly seems carefully planned and everyone seems to be having a great time, and that's what's important because it gets evident when you see it - though I still think Malik is a little off at times, not with singing but with interacting with others (then he quit for a great solo career). But as usual, he steals the show.
If you're here it's probably because you have an interest in video clips and this one is lots of fun, unusual and it'll leave you with a smile upon your face or singing the song repeatedly. 8/10
