The Killers was inspired by a real fact that has never been elucidated in Belgium, the matter of killers of the Brabant. These criminals have terrorized the country during the years 1980, coldly running their victims during violent and bloody robberies. François Troukens wanted to mix this horrible fact various with other political intrigues involving the state and the secret services, inspired for example by the attack in the railway station of Bologna occurred in 1980.
The film called at the outset "Killers: The Strategy of the Voltage" in relation with the attack in the railway station of Bologna in 1980, before finally being renamed soberly "killers."
