Alfred Hitchcock sent a copy of a script to his friend François Truffaut, who, while admiring it, expressed a level of discomfort with level of violence and sex in the story, answering "It does not worry me too much because I know that you shoot such scenes with real dramatic power, and you never dwell on unnecessary detail".
