Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream film, has confirmed that filming for Scream 7 started on January 7, 2025. He shared this news on his official Instagram account.

This marks Williamson’s return to the director’s chair for the Scream franchise. He previously wrote the first four films but has not written one since Scream 4 in 2011.

The movie has been plagued with various casting and production issues, which is why this confirmation is definitely great news. Filming is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, under the working title ‘Scar Tissue.’ The production is scheduled to continue until March 12, 2025.

1883 actress Isabel May will play the daughter of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott in Spyglass Media Group’s upcoming Scream 7. The deal is finalized.

The American actress is best known for starring as Katie Cooper on the Netflix series Alexa & Katie and had a recurring role as Veronica Duncan on the CBS series Young Sheldon. She held the lead role of Zoe Hull in the film Run Hide Fight. She is the narrator and leading protagonist of the Paramount+ series 1883.

The new Scream movie will include original cast members like Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. However, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who starred in the previous two films, won’t be in this one.

Ortega dropped out due to her busy schedule, including work on Wednesday and other projects. Barrera was let go last year following controversy over her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict.

“Scream 7” will finally hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026, after facing multiple setbacks, including production delays, creative overhauls and cast shakeups. In 2023, Melissa Barrera, who starred in the previous two films, was fired from the sequel over comments she made on social media about the Israel-Hamas war. Jenna Ortega, who co-starred with Barrera, had to drop out of the seventh film due to her shooting schedule for Season 2 of Netflix’s “Wednesday.

A new dark comedy titled “Up in the Hills” is in the works. The film stars Dylan Walsh (“Nip/Tuck”), Paris Berelc (Netflix’s “Alexa & Katie”), Ali Cobrin (“The Baxters”) and Cottrell Guidry. Steinberg also produces under his banner, Pontella Pictures.

Steinberg is an independent filmmaker who recently released his first feature film, “Senior,” in 2023. The comedy follows a college student on on his last day of college. At the Japan International Film Festival, the movie took home the best feature prize; at the Munich New Wave Film Festival, it won best feature film, and at the Roma Film Festival, the feature was recognized with the best actor award.

The emergence of Isabel May as the lead in Taylor Sheridan’s frontier epic series 1883 is such an unlikely discovery story that it still has the actress trying to come to grips with a star-making turn that should factor in the Emmy race.

The “Wonder Twins” centers on an alien sibling duo – Jayna and Zan – who can activate their superpowers by touching hands and saying their catchphrase, “Wonder twin power, activate!” Jayna can transform into any animal, and Zan can transform into water. The duo first appeared in the Hanna-Barbera animated television series of the 1970s, “The All-New Super Friends Hour.” The superpowered sibling duo has also appeared on the animated series “Teen Titans Go!” “The Flash” and “Smallville.

At first glance, Yellowstone didn’t have the makings of a major TV hit.

By the time Yellowstone premiered in 2018, its creator Taylor Sheridan didn’t have much name recognition beyond action movie die-hards. The show’s name was generic and certainly not search engine friendly. And its home on Paramount Network? One could be forgiven for not knowing where that was in their cable package.

And yet, Yellowstone did become a TV heavy hitter, arguably one of the biggest ones on television. Its ratings are absolutely massive, with the season 4 premiere pulling in a mind-boggling 14 million viewers before streaming was even factored in. Those are the type of Neilsen numbers you just don’t see anymore. Why did Yellowstone buck every possible roadblock trending against it to become TV royalty?

For starters, it’s good. That’s always important. But there’s another factor one can’t overlook: the Kevin Costner factor.

The remainder of the year’s Daytime Emmys will be celebrated in two live-streamed events on July 17 (children’s and animated programming) and July 18 (lifestyle). Just hours after the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, the Writers Guild of America, West and Writers Guild of America, East announced the latest batch of nominees for the upcoming WGA Awards, including honorees from television, new media, and news.

AMC’s “Better Call Saul” nabbed four nominations, one in drama series and three in episodic drama, which recognizes scripts from individual episodes of the season. Of particular note from today’s WGA announcement is the notable achievement of both Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” and Hulu’s “The Great” scoring nominations in both new series and comedy series. Exclusive: Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and Emery Kelly (Alexa & Katie) are set for recurring roles in Big Shot, Disney+’s upcoming original series written and executive produced by David E. Kelley and Dean Lorey and produced by ABC Studios, part of Disney Television Studios.

Starring John Stamos and Jessalyn Gilsig, the 10-episode series follows a temperamental college basketball coach (Stamos) who gets fired from his job and must take a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school.

Settle will play Christina Winters, Destiny’s (Tiana Le) mother. Kelly will portray Dylan, a high school student who plays basketball on the public court with the girls team coached by Marvyn (Stamos).

Ellen Page and Paris Berelc have boarded gaming comedy “1Up,” with Kyle Newman directing in what could be the first feature film for BuzzFeed Studios.

Berelc will portray a gamer who quits her college esports team due to sexism from her male counterparts. To keep her scholarship, she’s forced to assemble an all-female team and enlists the help of a coach — portrayed by Page — who has a gaming scandal in her past.

The script is written by Julia Yorks. BuzzFeed’s Richard Alan Reid is producing along with Michael Philip and Jason Moring. Production is expected to begin in Toronto in November.

Page stars in the Netflix series “Umbrella Academy” as Vanya Hargreeves. She was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress for 2007’s comedy-drama “Juno” and has credits on “Inception,” “Tallulah,” “Whip It” and portrayed Kitty Pryde in “X-Men: The Last Stand” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Exclusive: Jenna Boyd, Netflix’s former director of kids and family series, has launched her own production company and partnered with The Cartel, the production, finance and management outfit behind AMC’s Creepshow.

Boyd has established Field Day Entertainment and will work with The Cartel — where she will also serve as a manager — to develop a roster of talent, and create kids, family and animation content for broadcasters and streamers around the world. She will be based at The Cartel’s studio complex in Hollywood.

Kyle Rankin’s fictitious school-shooting thriller echoes multiple previous films in its evocation of post-Columbine classroom terror, before dubiously distinguishing itself by assuming the perspective of one female student tough enough to fight back. Merely pedestrian at the levels of direction, craft and performance, the film instead makes a grab for attention by peddling an ambiguous line on gun control and eye-for-an-eye morality. Any controversy that ensues, however, won’t disguise the phoniness of this exploitation exercise, which milks the worst fears of millions in pursuit of empty tension. Netflix has ordered a comedy series starring Jamie Foxx titled “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me,” Variety has learned.

The multi-camera series is inspired by Foxx’s relationship with his daughter, Corinne Foxx. The series will also star David Alan Grier, Kyla-Drew, Porscha Coleman, and Jonathan Kite. Heather Hemmens and Valente Rodriguez will appear in recurring roles.

Bentley Kyle Evans serves as showrunner and executive producer. Foxx will executive produce in addition to starring, with Corinne and Alex Avant producing. Ken Whittingham will direct all episodes.

This is not the first time Foxx and his daughter have collaborated on a TV project. She currently appears with her father on the Fox competition series “Beat Shazam,” which Foxx hosts and on which Corinne serves as DJ.

However, both multi-camera comedies taped Christmas specials prior to the pandemic, with both set to air this December. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, both specials are standalone episodes and do not continue the storylines from the prior episodes.

Audible has announced Diane Kruger will narrate Gayle Forman’s first Audible original, “The End of my Heart,” Variety has exclusively learned. “The End of my Heart” is a fictional, audio-only tale of an intergenerational mother-daughter relationship and a secret that, if exposed, could threaten to take away everything they have. The audible original is set to be released on June 25.

Starz has announced that its upcoming series “P-Valley” will premiere on July 12 at 8 p.m. Self-adapted by playwright Katori Hall from her play “Pussy Valley,” the series follows the community that builds around a strip club in the Mississippi Delta. Exclusive: Tamara Rothenberg has joined Endeavor Content’s TV Advisory group, where she will focus on children’s, family and young adult programming across the firm’s portfolio.

Previously, Rothenberg was a consultant for Disney, where she worked on original movies for Disney Channel and Disney+.

Prior to that, she was an executive at Netflix, launching original series including Free Rein, Alexa & Katie, Hilda and The Magic School Bus: Rides Again. She also identified and participated in greenlighting the successful Ya movie The Kissing Booth and the upcoming animated family feature My Father’s Dragon.

HBO Max has rounded out the lead cast for Americanah, its upcoming limited series based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel of the same name. Newcomer Tireni Oyenusi is set as a series regular, joining previously announced Lupita Nyong’o, Zackary Momoh, Uzo Aduba and Corey Hawkins. Americanah tells the epic story of Ifemelu (Nyong’o), a young, beautiful, self-assured woman raised in Nigeria, who as a teenager falls in love with her classmate Obinze (Momoh). Living in a military-ruled country, they each depart for the west, with Ifemelu heading for America, where, despite her academic success, she is forced to grapple for the first time with what it means to be black. Quiet, thoughtful Obinze had hoped to join her, but with post-9/11 America closed to him, he instead plunges into a dangerous undocumented life in London. Oyenusi plays Dike, Aunty Uju’s (Aduba) son, who immigrated to America as an infant.
