Have made no secret in the past of intensely disliking, and even outright hating a lot, a vast majority of SyFy's output, even when taking it for what it is or at least trying to be (which it rarely succeeds at doing). There is always curiosity as to whether they are capable of making something good and something compulsive about their output's badness. SyFy do oddly enough have a small group of watchable films and the occasional (big emphasis on that word) above average one, unfortunately outweighed by the lacklustre at best and often dreadful films they churn out.

There are far worse SyFy films than 'Toxic Shark' and certainly far worse shark attack films. 'Toxic Shark' is one of those lacklustre and far from good efforts of theirs (wouldn't say that it is one of their best even), but it is not a dreadful or unwatchable one, actually showing a little effort and some mild fun which does already put it above their usual standard.

Good things are outweighed by the bad things, but that there are any at all is nice to see. The opening sequence is pretty fun, and does indicate at least a guilty pleasure film, and there are a few witty lines too (already making it better than the usual terrible writing in a SyFy film). Plus the scenery is nice.

Mostly the script is poor, mostly very banal, overly cheesy and without much natural flow, and the characters are not very interesting or rootable ones (a mix of bland and annoying or even both). Having said that, the acting (though far from exceptional) is better than that in most of SyFy's output, doing an ok job with what they have and not being as amateurish as feared.

Visually on the other hand, only the scenery passes muster. 'Toxic Shark' does look both drab and garish and that it was made in haste and with minimal budget is obvious. The shark effects are not as bad as in a lot of other shark attack films, but they are still cheap, looking goofy and incomplete. It does hurt the impact of the attack scenes, which have no tension, suspense or menace at all (the unintentional humour being tiresome and predictable by now), and the shark, which is too goofy to be scary and too bland to be fun. The overused gratuity of the content is another factor.

As said already, the writing is mostly poor and the characters, despite the actors' best efforts, don't make much impression. The story is too thin, not much of one at all actually and with such a deja vu feeling throughout, and silly, also dull at times due to some extraneous padding and lack of emotional investment. Personally thought the zombie subplot didn't fit that well and was particularly silly.

Overall, one can do with far worse but still pretty lacklustre. 4/10 Bethany Cox

The Scyfy channel love their shark movies. From ghost sharks to zombie sharks to multiple headed ones to ones crossed with other creatures.

Here we see a toxic shark, a hybrid capable of firing green toxic gunk and infecting people with a rabies like virus.

This is certainly one of those "Once you've seen one you've seen them all" deals.

Scyfy's usual inability to maintain any kind of consistency, character development or originality is showcased once again.

I've seen them create worse, but want to acknowledge that the shark thing is badly overplayed now and needs putting on the back burner.

Scyfy Channel still hasn't figured out that a huge shark cannot sneak up on people in 2ft of water!

The black guy doesn't HAVE To die first in every movie

Admittedly I am a sucker for creature features, and I have always been fascinated with sharks. So of course I do sit down to watch the shark movies that I stumble upon, regardless of how silly the title might make the movie appear. And lets face it, "Toxic Shark" hardly screams top notch movie.

And the fact that this is a SyFy movie hardly works in favor of the movie in general. Although in all fairness, then SyFy do put out the occasional impressive movie. And who knows, "Toxic Shark" might happen to be one such movie, despite its goofy title.

The characters in the movie were rather annoying and seemed to be more stupid than necessary for the purpose of entertainment. I disliked many of the characters portrayed in the movie, as well as the dialogue they were dishing out.

Now, I am not saying that it was the acting that was bad, but it was the characters themselves, so writer Ashley O'Neil hardly created outstanding or lovable characters for the movie. The acting talents performed well enough with the limitations imposed on them by the script and storyline.

The sharks were, well, lets just say that it was different having sharks being able to project a squirt of acidic substance out from a protrusion on the head towards their prey. Yeah, that was the shark concept here. And the CGI effects for the shark were bland, as one has come to expect from SyFy movies. The CGI effects work well enough for their intend, but it didn't look all that realistic. So don't expect an impressive display of Hollywood special effects here. Some of the shark scenes were nice, but the majority was plagued by questionable CGI that couldn't pass for realism.

And true to so many other questionable shark movies, then they opted to have the sharks growling here like ferocious beasts. No, just no! Why do they go for that approach? Sure, I get that it is for dramatic effect as silent killers are not always a crowd pleaser. But having sharks growl like angry bears just doesn't work. It makes the scene seem stupid and amateurish.

"Toxic Shark", was unfortunately, every bit as generic and mass produced as you would expect from a shark movie from SyFy. It is still fun enough to watch, don't get me wrong, just don't expect to be impressed or terrified of going back into the water after having witnessed the somewhat questionable CGI animated sharks tear through the visitors at a single's retreat.

And while "Toxic Shark" isn't the best of movies in the shark creature feature genre, then it wasn't among the worst either. There are far, far worse sharks movies available, many of which also brandish the SyFy logo.

You know what you are getting before you watch this so it doesnt need much explanation - The usual Scifi channel malarky with questionable CGI , plot, story and acting.

Surprisingly the black guy or fat guy DOESN'T GET IT FIRST!

1 extra star for adding in the zombie subplot. And another for some rather witty dialogue in particular the line "Social Media Spirituality" - that one had my sides aching and the crash and over the handlebars accident at the start of the movie propelled us into the abyss quite admirably!

Pity the scantily clad ladees were not that attractive; obviously the budget went on the shark and its unfeasibly large zombie juice spouting snorkel.

Quite funny in bits , watch it with the lads , a few beers and a few bifders and you will be smokin!

Who ever directed and produced this film were only trying to rely on the girls wearing bikini

Pretty much a zombie angle on a shark movie - I appreciate the creativity but not the execution. The movie knew it was garbage bud didn't have much fun with it. The shark had some sort of mutation allowing it to spray acid when it attacked people, but it always immediately ate them, so we never really saw what that extra element could do. The zombie horde (like 15 people) was a fun added danger in this shark movie, but not much ever really came of it all. As expected, the acting was pretty dreadful, but not in a fun, ironic way. Toxic Shark tried to innovate, but its poor writing kept any of those ideas from being entertaining.

Who employs, signs off, and produces these scripts? Why do the characters talk like English is their 4th language? This sounded dubbed, tho it wasn't, and most the cast is actually American. So what happened? The beginning fail from the guy on the bike sets you up for a disaster of a movie with not the most attractive chicks in bikinis, air head muscle guys, and a typical loud black friend. I don't think I focused on the TV more than 3 minutes the entire time I had this on.

Ecent acting ruined by horrendous special effects. The. Udget was $500,000 dollars. (Who finances this stuff) i think they spent $100 on special effects. The shark is so bad words fail me, like a kid colored it with crayons. What a shame.

This movie has some great one-liners and truly hilarious scenes, none of the acting was hokey, scenery was enviable, oh, and there's a toxic shark problem!

Chances are if you're watching a SyFy shark week show you already pretty much know what you're getting so I'll just briefly sum up:

The Good: The main cast is a little better than average. Personally, I like my schmaltz better when the cast attempts to play it straight than the more campy Sharknado fare. Kabby Borders in a bikini is worth braving the endless adverts. The shark eating effects are the usual video game violence level so, you can just smile and guess who will be next.

The Bad: The peripheral cast of screamers is not so good. The "Toxic" in Toxic Shark involves injuries to cast members that are more of the gratuitous blood bath genre which for which I do not find myself smiling.

Conclusion: I'll have this one on again while I'm doing the dishes.

Better than Jaws I love how the deal with the shark way better than in the movie made by Steven.

Hot garbage but my friends and I only watched it for Eric Etebari because we loved him as Dallas.

None of the cast have any single idea of acting. Shark is gonna attack them , they are playing a nonsense drama. Worse casting ever!! It might have been better and specially better castings.

If what you like are intentionally horrendous and moronic movies its a must watch. It fails across the board, specifically with the "poisonous shark" invention as the monster, the plot es simple and ridiculous and the cgi leaves a lot to wish for... The dialogue is terrible and robotic with teenager slang and expressions, stereotypical and plain boring... do not waste your time

If this were a comedy, the rating would be a bit higher. My family enjoyed this movie very much, only because we could laugh at the awkward transitions, the uncomfortably inaccurate conversation, and...well, everything about the toxic shark.

I turned this movie on during a party with some friends and we actually LOVED it! It's perfect for the category. Silly-scary and with some very beautiful shots of Puerto Rico.

I mean, I love silly shark movies in general, but this one was particularly entertaining. It didn't take itself too seriously, the story was fun and entertaining, and the acting was surprisingly great (with very few exceptions). My friends kept saying the setting was like a Bachelor in Paradise. Highly recommend it - perfect for watching with a group of friends or for a summer party. A new classic silly horror film for the new generations.

Arriving at an island resort, a former couple find themselves stranded together for the duration of their stay only to have their personal issues compounded by an acid-spitting killer shark terrorizing the area and forcing them to deal with the shark to get away alive.

This here was quite the fun and enjoyable effort. One of the more enjoyable aspects to this one is the fact that there's quite a lot to like involving the initial setup of the situation. The fact that there's the former couple coming together to get their own form of closure only to stumble upon each other again is a nice start here, and that it leads into the shark attacks is where this one really scores well. There's plenty of really fun action here due to that, from the initial action of the shark taking out the group in the sea trying to prepare for the group to the Yoga class being ambushed in the water after their class and the big scene of the shark appearing in the middle of the water activities which occurs in front of everyone that lets them know the shark is out there. These scenes are also peppered rather nicely by the shorter ambush style attacks such as the slow dragging of the workers away into the waters or the grand ambush on the group trying to get away from the island when they run into the creature that impedes their attempts by launching itself out of the water to attack. This one really manages to work well with the concept of the toxin being spread by the shark which is where the second half turns into a lot of fun by including the zombified residents being infected and causing issues with them as well, leading to plenty of big chases where they have to deal with the shark in the water and the rabid, infected people on land which adds even more action to this one. This extra wrinkle in the film gives it a rather fun time here as this offers the fun of a shark- attack film with the kind of action from a zombie siege effort with the way this one delves into the screaming hordes in the final half, giving the big finale a lot to like as well as bringing about the great fun of the shark swimming through the hordes of uncaring infected which ups the body count so considerably that there's plenty of good gory fun to be had in that manner. These here are what hold this one up over it's few minor issues. One of the main points against it is the film's lack of information regarding the cause of the shark being infected, which is brought up that it got that way but never explained. The fact that there's no issue with its deadliness is part of the problem here as there's just not a whole lot given here as to why this got infected and the manner of it's poisoning gives this one a bit of an issue. Likewise, there's also the rather problematic and troublesome CGI which continually plagues these efforts and brings about plenty of derision when it comes to the inability to look realistic or move within the screen at all and brings this one down somewhat. Otherwise, there's not a lot to dislike here.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Language.

This isn't the the usual junk about sharks. The acting is actually good, the scenery, beautiful girls in bikinis, and the very pretty Kabby Borders make it worth watching. I gave it only 6 stars because of the horrible special effects and the fact, but they had a shark that growled under water. Sharks have no vocal cords! This is an ongoing pattern with shark movies.... sharks can not growl!!!! But all in all, not a bad shark movie, and I am normally brutal on reviews.
