David Fincher was originally set to direct the video, but left the project when Propaganda Films would not approve his $1.7 million project. Michael Bay, who Fincher had feuded with on several occasions in their days directing music videos, took over the job on a $750,000 budget, less than half of Fincher's desired price, and directed the other videos from Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell II album. Fincher eventually worked with Meat Loaf on Fight Club (1999).

admirable

After almost three decades, it is not easy or fair to say why I was seduced by this song. For video can be the basic explanation. But the video was only the support. For imposible, in some measure, love story. Off course but this remains only the pretext. Not doubts, for gentle beauty of the song itself. For inspired make up. For cultural references, so familiar ones. And for the force of sincerity, splendid used. A great song, touching, moving, soft and precise, about difference, love, truth and freedom. And admirable work of Meat Loaf.
