Somnium is the first feature from writer/director Racheal Cain after a trio of shorts, Everything Beautiful, The Clancy Family Funeral Home and Roaddog. It’s a film about dreams, both literal and figurative, following Gemma as, in the wake of a painful breakup, she decides to relocate to Los Angeles and pursue her dreams of Hollywood fame and fortune.
But, as we see in the montage that follows her arrival, that’s a dream that takes more than wishing on a star to make happen. Needing to pay the bills, she takes a job working nights at a sleep research company called Somnium as a sleep sitter, watching over the sleeping patients. It’s not glamorous, and the pay isn’t much, but it’s a job, and it...

Jennifer Carpenter has spent years thrilling audiences as Debra Morgan on Dexter.
Now she’s stepping into a new world — Taylor Sheridan’s 1923.
As she joins the epic Yellowstone prequel, Carpenter embraces a different kind of role that taps into the grit, danger, and moral complexities of the Wild West.
A Dream Come True (Paramount+/Screenshot)
For Carpenter, joining 1923 feels like fulfilling a lifelong dream. “There’s a part of me that wants to grab my eight-year-old self and be like, ‘You were right. I told you so!'” she said. “I feel like my dreams have sort of come true.”
While her character in Dexter was embedded in modern crime and justice, 1923 takes her back to a time when law enforcement was an entirely different beast. And for Carpenter, the heart of the show lies in its storytelling.

Gal Gadot has been in the industry for a while now but audiences and critics alike have been divided about her acting ability. The actress gained recognition through her portrayal of Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and later movies.
However, one action comedy put a blemish on her so-far-so-good filmography. The 2016 film Keeping Up with the Joneses experienced a disastrous reception at the box office and failed to create a substantial impact. Surprisingly, the lack of success was not due to the cast’s inability to perform, but due to the staleness of the script. Following Strange World, Disney’s new animated feature – Wish – will not be getting a 4K disc release in the UK: just DVD and Blu-ray.
Released in a blaze of publicity at the end of last year was Disney’s latest animated feature, Wish. This one carried the added responsibility of celebrating 100 years of Disney, and while the film’s solid enough, I’d argue it was weighed down by the extra centenary baggage.
Still, it’s entertaining, and looks and sounds superb, which makes it prime fodder for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray physical media release. However, its muted box office performance means that Disney has opted to limit its physical release to DVD and Blu-ray instead.
This was the same fate that befell Disney’s preceding animated feature, the terrific-looking Strange World. That didn’t ignite the box office, either, and had its home media release slightly restricted.

While Santa Isn’t Real is only his second film as a director, the supernatural slasher #Float being his first, Zac Locke is no stranger to the genre. He has a long string of credits as a producer on films ranging from Mercy Black and Climate of the Hunter to, for better or worse, the most recent version of Black Christmas.
Santa Isn’t Real opens with Nikki ignoring a text from her boyfriend Nathan (Trey Anderson; Performance Anxiety) to celebrate with spiked eggnog and a bottle of Zoloft As the clock strikes midnight Santa comes down the chimney and attacks her before eating the cookies, laying a finger aside his nose and going back up the chimney. Director Vincenzo Natali never made a sequel to the 2009 movie Splice, despite the open ending leaving room for one. He prioritizes storytelling over intentionally setting up sequels, speaking to his artistic merits. Natali's previous experience with the film Cube and its sequels influenced his decision not to allow a sequel to be made without his involvement. He values protecting the integrity of his work and was likely uninterested in the ideas that surfaced for Splice 2. Although a Splice sequel is unlikely, Natali has continued to make sci-fi horror movies, including Haunter, In the Tall Grass, 388 Arletta Avenue, and Come True, each offering its own unique take on the genre. Come True, in particular, fills the void for fans of dark and satisfying storytelling.
The 2009 sci-fi horror movie Splice left the perfect opening for a sequel, but despite seeming somewhat interested in continuing the story, director Vincenzo Natali never brought Splice 2 to fruition.

Disney has unveiled the teaser trailer for their latest animated movie titled Wish, initially inspired by the classic Disney lyric "when you wish upon a star..." This first look teaser introduces 17-year-old Asha, the powerful King Magnifico, Asha's pet goat Valentino, and Star, a celestial ball of boundless energy that Asha's wish calls down from the sky. Rob Lowe and his 28-year-old son, John Owen Lowe, got downright serious — and a bit emotional — during their latest appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show”.
The father-son comedic duo had a lot banter during Thursday’s show, trading barbs and zinging each other. But the conversation turned serious, after Barrymore opened up about her sobriety journey and sharing that her family supports “me through my pitfalls.”
She then commended Rob and John Owen for supporting “each other through every high and low.”
Rob chimed in and talked about being in recovery for 33 years now. After the crowd clapped, Rob then shared Johnny’s “got five years.”
At that point, Rob reached into his pocket and surprised John Owen with his five-year sobriety chip.
“In fact, Johnny’s five-year birthday was on Saturday,” Rob said. “And Johnny, I want to give you your five-year chip. I love you. I’m proud of you.

When Jennifer Hudson was just 14 weeks old, the musical Dreamgirls debuted on the Broadway stage, where it won six Tony Awards, including a Best Actress trophy for the show’s breakout star, Jennifer Holliday. Holliday also earned a Grammy Award and a No. 1 R&b hit with the musical’s show-stopping number, And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going. That was a song young Jennifer Hudson grew up listening to and loving, though she never realized it came from Dreamgirls. So, when she auditioned for the Dreamgirls movie, Hudson told us she was surprised to find she’d be singing Holliday’s songs. Between "Pachinko" and "The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey," Apple TV+ has some intriguing novels-turned-series on the way in March 2022. The latter stars Samuel L. Welp, 2021 was certainly a year. There was a lot of good (Movies! TV! Books! Random Horror Awesomeness!) and a lot of bad (pretty much everything else), but we made it to 2022, and I am excited for all that’s to come in the next 12 months (at least when it comes to stuff going on in horror). Over the course of last year, I think formally reviewed over 60 films, did interviews for at least 20 other projects beyond those reviewed films, relaunched Indie Horror Month in April, and even did a ton of other features and articles on Daily Dead as well.
Suffice to say, 2021 was pretty darned busy for me on the writing front and because there was so much content that I absolutely adored, I decided that for my favorites list this time around, I wanted to do things a bit differently because if I dive into every single thing...

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

Stylishly directed, shot and edited by Anthony Scott Burns (Our House), this creepy Canadian sci-fi horror takes a nightmarish peek into the subconscious. Combining strong visuals with an intriguing mystery plot and at least one state-of-the-art jump scare, Come True brings new meaning to the term sleeper hit.
Julia Sarah Stone plays 18 year-old Sarah Dunne, a high school student whose relationship with her mother has soured to the point where she’s effectively a runaway, though she still pops home under cover of darkness to pick up things like a sleeping bag and her laptop. Tired of kipping overnight in a child’s playground, she jumps at the chance to participate in a sleep study, where she’s hooked up to a bunch of machines and is observed every night by Dr.
