The flashbacks this season have really not worked for me. I appreciate the deep dive into the histories of the characters, but the casting has been off and it just feels totally off. That said, Greg Germann and Sarah Drew do like series-best work in this episode. And what a thoughtful look at people's relationships with religion.
Jumping into Karen's childhood more easily fun to see, after hearing so many stories from him and his siblings.
The actors chosen to play him and Jo as younger were 100%, especially the actress who played Jo, I actually needed to look up who it was because I was certain she was a relative of Camilla Luddington.
They were wise to not show too much of the bad stuff that happened to Jo and kinda kept it as an arc which saw her get better and show the start of her path to where she is now.
Got no time for Owen and Amelia, can't be bothered with that storyline, I was over it last season.
The subplot with Grey and the Spanish lady who's name I can't even be bothered to remember was clearly shoehorned in to make up for the lack of Ellen Pompeo in the last few episodes.
