Wow was this movie bad or what? I for one think it went as a sequel and not a remake, sure, it has plenty of similarities, but there would be close to no point in remaking a movie with a low budget, bad CGI, even weak acting.
So they decided they needed to make yet another Shark movie. With all these indie productions from Asylum and other companies, it is quite hard to make one that will pop-up. And here is where Deep Blue Sea comes into place. The first one, as we all know, was an excellent cheesy fun horror, that delivered plenty!
Part 2 tho, shows nothing new. Some special effects that bow down to those from the original Poltergeist, actors that went too far most of the time, predictable plot and no fun whatsoever! Or scares for that matter. They just went full in with Super Smart Sharks! SSS but no $$$ to support the idea and we are left with an abysmal movie! Such a shame.
Truly, my only regret is the fact that they bonded this one to the original. Deep Blue Sea stands for something!
Cheers!

Just....awful.
Michael Beach is a journeyman actor, but even cannot save this POS. Let's review:
1) A shark scientist who looks like a stripper (Or the director/producer's girlfriend) 2) Assorted people around to get eaten by sharks. 3) A billionaire who travels alone 4) A billionaire who apparently has only a single attorney 5) Zodiac boats used for traveling to locations way offshore 6) A shark trainer who doesn't seem to understand sharks. 7) A shark scientist who's also a pain in the a*s whiner 8) Zero suspense 9) Nobody who understands science working at the facility (You know...like physics) 10) Not a single character who you can care about.
Terrible film that would have been better on Syfy as an Asylum project. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

The first one was much better. The acting was better in the original. More action, also.
Terrible.. acting was really bad, story was almost a complete rehash of the first one minus a few new elements. Don't waste your time, just rewatch the first one. I watch this with the hope it would be half as good as the first, it definitely wasn't.
The acting was atrocious all around. I wanted all of the characters to die. The plot had so many holes, the script was likely written by a middle school student, and the set was obviously low budget. I made the mistake of watching it before looking at the IMDB rating. After the torturous hour and a half, I looked on IMDB, saw the 3.2 rating (which is generous), and then saw that the channel "SyFy" had purchased the movie. Oh my, that's worse than straight to DVD. If you are looking for a good shark movie, don't waste your time with this one. The sharks don't really get enough screen time.

- TriviaIn Deep Blue Sea (1999), the shark facility is called Aquatica. In the sequel, the shark facility is called Akheilos. In Greek mythology, Akheilos (or Acheilus) is the son of Zeus and Lamia. Akheilos offends Aphrodite, boasting that he is more beautiful than she, and is then transformed into a grotesque shark-like creature.
- Goofs(at around 49 mins) Sharks have no vocal cords, or any other method of making sound, but Bella's pups all shriek.
