When I started watching the 'The Governor', I had hoped that, at the very least, I would learn a little about the Nigerian political system, or even just Nigeria in general, the way 'The West Wing' showed us the politics of the USA and Borgen showed us the political landscape of Denmark. I was sorely disappointed.
The show follows Angela Ochello (portrayed by Caroline Chikezie) as she assumes the post of Governor of Savannah State in Nigeria after the death of her predecessor.
Almost from the beginning, the show goes hopelessly wrong. IN an attempt to portray the main character as 'good', she is shown to be hopelessly naive, to the point that she is amazed at the existence of corruption in politics. This despite having been the vice-governor for several years. But that's the least of the show's problems. What is far worse is that the people producing it seem to be allergic to exposition or any form of conveying background information. After a whole season, I still have no idea what Savannah State is like. There are no panning shots, no discussion of its politics or economy. I don't even know what the main character's authority consists of! Half the time she seems to operate as a dictator, who can operate as she wants without having to acknowledge a local legislature or for that matter the national government. Perhaps people in Nigeria know all these things, but when you bring a show onto the international market, you need to educate your public. We're not going to watch the show with our computers open on the relevant wikipedia pages.
Add an almost soap-like framing of the shots and acting that borders on the ridiculous, varying between the wooden and the insanely theatrical, and you end up with a mess of a show. It;s a pity, because this could have been very interesting. But as it is, it's just total amateur hour.
I do not hate this show. I'm watching it all the way through because I think it's interesting to watch foreign series that give me a peak into those lives. But, it's not really a good show. It's at the level of say, a high school student.
The editing is awful. I truly believe, if they'd tighten EVERY SINGLE SHOT, this would be a 6. The extra air between everyone single person's dialogue is excruciating. Even so, the acting is stiff, forced, completely unnatural. The lighting is just one giant bright light on most scenes, and it's shot on tape so it's really flat.
That's about it.

This is a true reflection on the Nigerian politics. Angie survived due to family and inner team support. How did Friday manage to make a fool of himself throughout this show. I love the loyalty of the First Son's friend. I must say it's very rare to have such a man as Deputy Governor Ahmed working with Angie. What a synergy!
What's up with the Big Three! I think they are cowards, hiding behind the veil to perpetrate evil. They think they are powerful but I only see them as weak, spineless worms. The butterfly really thinks himself a bird!
I only hope that one day, Nigeria will enjoy this type of leadership. Love this show and look forward to season 2.

Ok this aired in 2016, 1 season 13 episodes. Soooo many unanswered plot lines. I found it mostly hilarious in many of the 13 episodes. Is this how Government operates overseas? Friday Bello is a total trip he need to be dealt with. The daughter is naive. The father seems to be an honorable man. The son is naive like his sister. Henry is loyal good man to have on Angela's team. The Big Three reminds me of Larry, Curly, and Moe from The Three Stooges. Angela Ochello is smoking HOT! It is now 2023 where's season 2 thru 5? What happened to the writers of the show? Netflix how do you start a show and not finish it?
