Right, well as I sat down to watch the 2017 Taiwanese movie "Chi Qin Nan Zi Han" (aka "All Because of Love"), I must admit that I was in for a romantic drama. And imagine my surprise when I found out that the movie also was part musical.
The story from writers Yi-Chi Lien, Yu-Chen Lin and Essay Liu started out adequately enough. But when the cast broke out in a song during a fight scene, then I have to admit that my interest in the movie quickly waned. And it wasn't a single incidence, because they broke out singing twice during that fight scene. And then when the couple was eloping, another song broke out, and I just got up and turned off the movie. I managed to get 24 minutes into the rubbish heap of a movie that is known as "Chi Qin Nan Zi Han".
Talk about a swing and a miss movie from director Yi-Chi Lien. You sit down to watch a movie with some expectations to the genre, and then the movie turns out to be something else entirely.
I wasn't familiar with the cast that participated in the movie. But I didn't get to see how well or not the actors and actresses handled themselves.
I started out with a genuine interest in the movie, but that quickly died as the movie turned into a song routine. And believe you me, I have zero interest in returning to watch the rest of this movie.
My rating of "Chi Qin Nan Zi Han" lands on a one out of ten stars. This is seriously one of the worst movie experiences I have had in a long, long time.
