Dick Grayson's identity struggle and hallucinations within the eponymous "Asylum" evoke the internal conflict Batman had in Detective Comics #408 February 1971 written by Len Wein and Marv Wolfman & illustrated by Neal Adams and Marshall Rodgers. Dr. Tzin-Tzin warps Batman's mind to create illusions of failure and Robin's death. This issue was reprinted as Detective Comics #477 June 1978 with an added wraparound set in Arkham Asylum: "House that Haunted Batman" .
